Safeway Kensington – Burnaby is a nice place to shop overall. The store is clean, well maintained, and the associates are friendly and helpful. Produce is fresh, and most products are easy to find, making shopping fairly smooth.nThere is plenty of parking, and checkout is efficient. I like that they also have a fast checkout lane, which is helpful when you’re in a hurry.nA small thing to note: carts require $0.25 — $1 coins do not work, so be prepared. The store layout is mostly fine, though the frozen section being placed between grocery aisles can feel a little tricky at first.nWashrooms are consistent with most Safeway locations — old and slightly uncomfortable, shared by men, women, and kids, and unfortunately no diaper changing station, which can be inconvenient for parents.nYou can find some good deals in the clearance section, but do check expiry dates carefully. On a previous visit, I noticed kids’ vitamin D drops that were expired 2024 still on clearance in December 2025, so caution is advised.nOverall, a pleasant shopping experience with a few minor improvements needed.
I had the absolute pleasure of being assisted by the most amazing baker at the Kensington Safeway for needing a 15 year work anniversary cake. From the beginning of our interaction to the end of our interaction, nothing but kindness, attention to detail and quality of the design and of the cake. I must say she did this all within less than 24 hours. Safeway will be my GO TO for all office and personal cakes from now on. People raved about the custom peach filling. Thank you Safeway for making the work anniversary a very memorable experience! Now the bakers name, she told me, my memory is not so good, sorry Netta?
Wow Safeway Kensington has been serving the North Burnaby area since the late 70's. A great location to buy fresh produce, meat, deli and bakery items on my way home. It has changed and renovated a bit over the decades, but it still the local accessable Safeway in the area. A large free parking lot and Starbucks available.
The deli department has finally improved. I update the rating from 1 star to 5! The ladies working there are happy and friendly now. She even reminded me to grab the drink, it’s important because you need to scan the drink in order to get the combo price.nThis Safeway is always clean and neat . Fruit is fresh. I’m happy with the quality of the products.
The middle aged lady with a pony tail that works at the deli that served me and my mom today was soo rude and gasped under her breathe when my mom simply asked a question about the different meal deals. My mom doesn’t go and buy ready made meals usually and she wanted to ask how much the fried chicken wings were and in what sizes they were available and she gave a smug condescending look. Please Safeway train certain employees at your location better.
