Story

Richmond Hill GO Station is a train and bus station in the GO Transit network located in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. It was the northern terminus of the Richmond Hill line train service from the services inception in 1982 until the opening of Gormley GO Station on 5 December 2016.Out of the all the Richmond Hill line stations, this is the only station that has a reduced length platform (accommodating only up to an L8 consist, a trainset consisting of eight Bombardier BiLevel Coaches and at least one locomotive. Beginning in the spring of 2015, the platform was scheduled to be extended to allow 12-car trains. A pedestrian bridge over Major Mackenzie Drive and a new station building will also be constructed. The train layover facility in Richmond Hill was opened in 2014.HistoryThe original Richmond Hill railway station was a single storey clapboard building, located on the north side of Centre Street East, just a short distance north of the current station. Built in 1906 by the James Bay Railway the station was closed by Canadian National Railway in 1968 and the building was relocated in 1979 to

The go train is always on time, but the schedule is not ideal with only 3 hourly trains going downtown on the weekdays and no service on the weekends. To go downtown on the weekend, check the nearby lines: stouffville or Barrie lines. There are two parking lots west and east. I would recommend the East parking lot even though it’s a bit of walk because the west parking lot gets extremely busy on your way back in the afternoon. It is a long line to get out of the West parking lot in the afternoon, whereas the East parking lot has no afternoon rush and it’s right across the street.nnAlso, please be mindful of the school near the station on Major Mac, as there are many school children and it’s being monitored by Speed Camera.
Every day see the people missing rides to Union Station bound. They are desperately waiting for the TRAIN, when BUSES only operates during the day. I'm so sorry, because of luck of signing, no info on platform, nobody in the office. Local people know where is a BUS platform, not everybody locals, or commuters.nPlease, improve infrastructure and information.nTruly yours, neighbour. 326, Major Mackenzie Dr.
Please keep in mind the weekend hours were either way off or there just was no train. We basically had a trip ready and a portion of it relied on parking here and taking the train. The website stated the train would be there at 1:12 pm and we planned this well in advance. Well, alongside my family and I, another family, a couple, and a few others we would eventually discover there was no train...like, at all. You'd think that would be mentioned somewhere on the website. Anyway, just this station was a problem, the stations on the southwest are good. So, if you plan your hotel stay, and attending a friend's bday party, plus a trip up North around this station being available on the weekend, just don't. We went and took the subway.
This GO station is not built for easy commutes if you drive. You should aim to get here well in advance of your train departure as Newkirk Street gets quite backed up. It's even worse when you try to exit - there are only two exits and given they both go onto Newkirk, each lane is essentially preventing the other from leaving. The oncoming traffic from Major Mackenzie doesn't help either. You'll see people running to their cars from the train to try to leave the parking lot quickly - otherwise it can literally take 15-20 minutes to leave, which is kind of ridiculous.
Always clean and tidy. Lots of free parking spaces for cars, but it's getting more and more crowded over the past few years. It's often full by 9am on weekdays -- frustrating for people hoping to park and then ride the 9:20am bus. It's probably about time to build a second level of parking here.nnA few parking spaces for bikes would be nice to have right here in non-snowing seasons.
