I have consigned for almost 10 years at 3 different consignment shops in Edmonton. This was my first time consigning at Plato's and it was a poor experience. I was unimpressed, to say the least, with their organization method of how they sort clothing once it is handed off. I was given a wait time of roughly 25 minutes as they had one large drop off prior to me, which is fine. However, after shopping around, leaving to do an errand, and returning (total time of over 1 hour), my name still was not on the board as completed, nor did I see my bag I handed off in the pile of bags to be sorted. When a staff member began reorganizing the bags on the ground, my bag became visible at which point I asked another associate about the status of my drop off. She looked around for my name and since she seemed a bit aimless, I pointed out my bag on the floor. A staff member apologized, saying my bag must have been missed. I was offered $7 for 2 items chosen of my small bag of 6 items. Even though the shirts retailed for around $50 each, I took the offer so that my hour and a half was not a complete waste of time. Consignment process aside, the store comes off poorly organized and it is one of those consignment stores you really have to sort through to get that really good find. Even then, you may not as the brands they carry for the most part are at a XXI/H&M tier, generally speaking (but they do have a good selection of older Lululemon pieces). I read a few of the responses from the owner on other reviews which stated that they have to be selective, but there were plenty of items I was surprised were accepted for consignment (out of season, out of style, faded, worn, holes, etc.). They say they pay out 35-40% of retail, but I do not see how that is possible based on the pricing of most items in the store. I would give Plato's 1 star based on my consigning experience, but I found a pair of unused Coach leather wedges for under $20, so my time waiting around was at least a little offset with that find. If you prefer a thrift shop sort of feel where staff generally do not seem to interact with customers, you will probably be happy enough shopping here.

I came in this Wednesday night and the staff was remarkable. So kind and funny, which made my shopping experience very enjoyable. Hoping to see that group very soon. The clothes seem to be close to brand new and I was pleased with the selection. Will be shopping here again.

Not impressed by this place. It is filled with run down, stained low quality brands such as Joe Fresh, Ardene, and Old Navy. Most of the shoes are so beat up and disgusting. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for which clothing they will buy and based on my experiences, it seems to depend on which staff member is working. I brought in two big bags of current clothing and shoes in excellent condition in brand names of Guess, French Connection, Banana Republic, etc and all of it was rejected. Only a couple of my husband's items were accepted and one of my bags was returned to me completely untouched by staff. When my stuff was given back to me, the lady told me she accidentally mixed my clothes up with the clothes of the woman before me and so that would affect the offer. It was assumed that I would take the offer as she had already taken away the items she accepted and couldn't remember which items they were. Keep in mind that I returned to the counter only thirty minutes after handing off the clothes, which was my designated wait time for her to sort the items. I have only been here twice but my first experience was much better!

Really poor selection when I went. A lot of clothes from Walmart. I had been expecting more unique pieces, from what I’d heard, but I was very disappointed. Staff ignored us too. Prices were alright, though. I’m willing to go back and see if this was just a one time thing

Really nice store. Used clothes and shoes but they buy from people and you don't have to fumble through everything to make sure it's in good condition before buying it and they still have great prices. Nothing against regular thrift stores but a couple dollars more to not have to look for stains and holes is worth it to me.
