Story

Planet Fitness is known for a lot of things. We’ve got tons of equipment, clean and spacious locker rooms, and the friendliest staff around. We’re also the home of the Judgement Free Zone®, which is a somewhat fancy way of saying we’re a laid-back environment, where you don’t need to worry about that hardcore attitude you might find other places.

This gym was very large and spacious. It also includes a spa ‍ I loved the cryo lounge. When it went to the cool setting, it felt like an ice , they have tanning too.nEveryone was helpful and super welcoming.nThanks everyone your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed .
I wanted to share some positive feedback about the Merivale Planet Fitness location, especially based on a few standout interactions I’ve had with staff recently.nnAlix is amazing. He interacts with so many members including me and my mom and does a great job making the gym feel welcoming no matter what level someone is at. My mom and I have completely different workout routines, so different that he didn’t even realize we were related at first, which honestly says a lot about how genuinely he tries to connect with everyone. He encourages people to have a great workout and has helped build a real sense of community in the gym. He carries himself not just like an employee, but like someone with ownership-level responsibility and care. Even when he’s working out on his own time, he still looks out for the gym and the equipment. For example, I was on the hack squat and mentioned to a friend that it felt like it wasn’t lubed properly. Alix overheard, took it seriously, and the issue was fixed quickly. I even got to see the lubing/maintenance process, which was pretty cool.nnJessica has also been awesome. I was having a Wi‑Fi/app issue when signing in, and she went out of her way to help me get everything set up properly so it wouldn’t keep happening. That kind of attention to detail and care really stands out. She treats members like people, not problems to rush through. She’s also helped make my workouts better in small ways that matter, like being willing to change TV channels during quieter hours so I can do cardio without missing a big sports game.nnShelby deserves a shoutout too. Even though she joined relatively recently, she took the time to make sure my mom was comfortable using new equipment that was delivered switching from Life Fitness to Matrix. My mom was pretty intimidated by the change, but Shelby guided her through it patiently and made it feel manageable. She consistently goes the extra mile to connect with members and make the gym feel welcoming.nnEvan is another employee who stands out. Like Alix, he shows genuine care not only while he’s working but even while he’s working out in the gym. He encourages people and hypes them up during lifts, and I honestly appreciate that more than I can explain—having that kind of supportive energy around you helps you push toward your goals.nnThere’s also a newer hire who’s quite young I haven’t learned his name yet, but he’s been impressive, he clearly takes pride in keeping the gym organized and looking after the equipment. That says a lot about the workplace culture here.nnBeyond individual staff, I want to highlight the overall experience at Merivale:nnThe gym is consistently clean and organized, even during busier times.nnEquipment is generally well-maintained, and if something feels off, staff actually take it seriously.nnThe staff create a welcoming environment for all members—newcomers, casual gym-goers, and people training harder.nnThe vibe feels positive and community-oriented without being intrusive or pushy.nnI also really enjoy the question-of-the-day style jar with the beads. It’s a small thing, but it adds personality and makes the gym feel more like a community than just a room full of machines. If that ever goes away or if any of the staff mentioned above leave, I’ll be genuinely sad.nnAnd for the staff I didn’t mention by name, especially the overnight crew I see during late-night or early-morning workouts, you’re great too. I don’t know how you have that much energy at those hours, but it makes a difference.nnOverall, Merivale does a really good job representing what Planet Fitness should feel like: welcoming, professional, clean, and supportive. Keep doing what you’re doing.
A great fitness center, lots of machines so that even during busy times it isn't too crowded. Friendly staff and being open 24/7 is very convenient as I never need to check the opening hours except for holidays since it's always open!nMy only complaint is the shower rooms: there are often moths in the shower curtains and the shower area needs to be cleaned more often. Also I'd prefer fewer or no TVs in the gym.
Nice gym, but the customer service really disappointed me. Everything was fine until it came time to cancel my membership. The manager told me he froze my account, but never mentioned that you can only freeze it for 3 months in a year. Because of that, I still got charged the yearly fee on October 30 at night, and then another $17 for the monthly fee .Even though he told me my account was frozen. That’s misleading, plain and simple.I wasn’t even planning to leave a review. But after canceling, I was told I would still have access until the 17th since the fees were already paid. When I went to the gym yesterday, my access was suddenly gone.The issue isn’t the money. it’s the fact that I was misled. The gym itself is nice, but the staff communication is poor. Just a heads up for anyone considering joining. I’ll be filing a complaint with HR because the experience was nothing like what Planet Fitness claims to offer its customers
If I could give 0 stars I wouldnnMy husband was able to sign up in the gym with help of front desk on bank street usingnDebit only because he has no credit card,not everyone has onennBut merivale wouldn't n made me do online,what a waste because I had issues with there site doing itnnI reinstated my membership from the gym I was going to & will never join here.
