We dined here a few times. We didn't know whether we could find a nice Vietnamese restaurant and we were craving some good Pho and decided to eat here. What makes XeLua unique is that the noodles are handmade in the restaurant. The freshly made noodles with the amazing broth gives this restaurant the upper hand! The atmosphere, for a little restaurant is welcoming with some beautiful pictures from Vietnam. The food is tasty and the price is quite reasonable.
I'm a fair and honest reviewer and I have to say, this food was nasty. The chicken was mostly skin and bones.. gag worthy. I am not generally picky either. The curry had a half inch of oil on top and tasted more Indian than Vietnamese. The spring rolls were just OK, had a shrimp tail still one.. and very basic but only came with like 2 tablespoons of peanut dip. I rarely hand out 1 stars. Dont order from here. I ate about 10 percent before tossing it out.
Service was good and price was decent. Food served hot and efficient. Spring rolls were a bit smaller than other Vietnamese restaurants.
Xe Lua has been around for more than 20 years and always the ‘go to’ restaurant when we can’t agree on where to go. My kids love the pho in beef soup which is comfort food. We came in almost 45 minutes before closing and the waitress reminded us that they have to close by 10pm because the cash register will shut down as programmed. I ordered the large with fresh rice noodles, since there wasn’t a medium size. Since there was a salmonella problem with the bean sprouts a couple of years ago, I always ask for them cooked. The basil leaves were fresh while a lot of places gave browning ones. The beef broth was served hot and tasted good as usual but the amount of noodles were not what I’d expect for a ‘large’ bowl. Probably because there’s less with fresh noodles ordered. However, there was enough meat in my order of raw beef slices with beef tripe and tendons. The restaurant was clean and the service was attentive. The washrooms are downstairs though but were clean and bright. It’s always satisfying after a nice bowl of pho!
I honestly run into so many issues with this restaurant. First time I got food poisoning and went to the ER. The beef was raw and the blood had leaked all over the noodles. Then I ordered Uber eats and had a 8$ discount on a 35$ order. The order was fine until they started preparing it you get the notif when they start preparing few minutes later they cancelled my order when my delivery person was there. I guess they didn’t like the fact that I had a discount. Luckily Uber resolved it and gave me my money back because even though they cancelled my order, the restaurant didn’t issue my refund.
This place is always a hit or a miss. I've been here on multiple occasions and each time the quality of the pho differs. Sometimes they use fresh noodles and sometimes it's the dry ones. On my last visit the broth was really really bland, it had no flavour and lacked salt. Not coming back anytime soon.
Great pho place generally in only order the beef brisket large portion with the spring rolls or chicken on rice depending on the mood that day. Taste is always consistent and I don't have issues with staff coming to you if you call them over. Only 1 issue causing the 4 star was the time I had ordered takeout and they forgot an item which I paid for and only noticed when I got back home. Wasn't worth the drive to head back when the main courses would get cold. Other than this isolated incident I still come back here every once in awhile especially in the winter time.
Ordered pho and bun bo hue from Uber Eats and it was the worst I've ever had. The soup lacked flavour and depth. Instant ramen tastes better. The quality of what I received in delivery looks so different from what I see in dine in photos. So disappointing.
Very fast service at lunch time despite being quite busy. They've got plenty of helpful staff working here. Selection and food are excellent.
Ordered bun bo hue from Uber Eats and it was the WORST I've ever eaten. The soup had absolutely no flavour - it was as if they ran out of soup and quickly added sriracha sauce to the broth. They also gave little meats as well.
