Because they’re always so busy, it can feel a bit crowded but they make up for it with their superb customer service. They make sure everyone is comfortable, offer booster seats, and high chairs as soon as you arrive to ensure everyone is comfortable. The dining plates turned over quickly for you while eating the more “hands on” foods lobster, crab and etc, you never have to ask. Very efficient. That make you feel as if you’re at home. This restaurant has been around for so long. It has many, very long time, loyal staff - so it’s always a great sign and indicator when there’s been staff who have been there for 30 years. Has to say a lot about their business operations. Food quality is excellent. Cannot complain. Live stock on site for the lobster and crab. Everything is made fresh and you can taste that in the texture and quality of the food as each pate is brought out to you. It is a fine dine restaurant and for the service and quality of the food - the prices will reflect that and is worth every penny. We will be back!
Excellent experience going to this restaurant. The curry crab does not disappoint, but goes beyond all expectations. Make sure to get the fried pancakes with the curry crab for the best flavor combination. Lamb chops and grilled jumbo shrimp was amazing as well. The servers are amazing as well. Thank you so much for the excellent experience. Definitely be back again and always.
Located in busy strip mall in Richmond Hill area. The stretch has many Asian restaurants. The car park can be very busy during dinner time. Saigon star serves mainly Vietnamese cuisine as well as Thai and Chinese. They are most known for their famous Curry Dungeness Crab. It is their signature dish and does not disappoint! I have been here before pre-pandemic but my first time trying their Curry Crab. It is the best Crab dish I have ever had. The curry sauce is aromatic, rich and full of flavour. The crab itself is has a sweet flavour and they compliment each other excellent. The roti is fresh, flaky and not too heavy, it soaks up the lovely curry flavour. The fried rice is a next must have dish. It is creatively served in a pineapple and this sweet flavour enhances the Smokey fried rice taste. The curry lamb dish is also very excellent. The lamb is very tender and full of flavour. A definite visit for any seafood lover and for anyone who wishes to experience a unique dish.
Saigon star just HITS THE SPOT!!! I’ve been craving seafood for months and this went above and beyond my expectations. Highly recommend families or groups of friends to check it out. The lobster and pork neck was by far two of the best dishes I’ve ever had. I couldn’t get enough. We also tried their famous curry crab have it with the roti and scallops. We didn’t get the chance to try their dessert just means I need to go again but the smoothies and Vietnamese coffee really were the cherries on top.
If you're hungry visit here. I visited for a take out and the staff were very efficient and I soon received my take out, this was when they were semi busy with half the tables full. I ordered the pad thai and received a big portion. The quality was quite good so if you're not fussy this should be good for you. Pretty good tasting. Prices were pretty reasonable given the size of the portion.
It's sometimes hard to find decent seafood, so I was intrigued by Saigon Star. It's a long-standing establishment that's been open for well over 25 years in Richmond Hill, and even years before that in downtown Toronto. Vietnamese/Chinese cuisine on offer, with hot takes on curry crab and other seafood beyond pho and rice. It's usually quite packed for dinner, and it was the same even on a weekday evening. We came to taste their recipe for success. Started with their pho which was a bit more intense than the soup elsewhere but on the saltier side. Next came the Chilli Paste Fresh Clams that had great balance of sweet & spicy flavour, and was popular with the whole fam. Crab Curry then landed and took up center stage. This is the dish to get down right dirty with gloves, with rich creamy curry sauce, and fresh BC crab meat. I followed the advice of others to order roti to scoop the curry, delicious! Rack of Lambs that then arrived was well-seasoned and grilled to medium rare; it was a bit too tough for the others so I enjoyed it on my own. Last but not least, a plate of Grilled Jumbo Prawns filled what little space was left at our table; all that head butter and succulent prawn meat was perfect with the vermicelli. For dessert, piping hot taro sago pudding wrapped up a great meal. Seafood was reasonably priced for the quality of dishes, including seasonal price for the crab. Now I understand why one of the popular chefs in the city rated the Crab Curry at Saigon Star as his favourite meal. The owner seemed disappointed when we didn't finish the large crab portion upon asking for the bill! Not to worry him, we packed the rest of the curry which was just so good.
My friends and I have been back time and time again because of just how much we love their food!! Every time I’ve brought a friend there, they’ve always raved about how delicious the food is. One of our faves is definitely the curry crab with roti their flagship dish. The sauce is so good that I wish I could pack it up and eat it with everything. Another fave of mine is the beef short ribs not pictured here. I’ve tried a lot of beef short ribs before and Saigon Star’s marinade is by far my favourite!! We also got the basil chilli clams which was absolutely delicious. The sauce was sooo flavourful and really hit the spot! We were also a big fan of the black pepper lobster which was coated with the yummy black pepper seasoning. I will definitely be coming back with more friends! If you haven’t tried their food already, I would definitely recommend giving them a try!!
Great ambiance and the seafood is magnificent lived the staff as they come timely with refills and new plates for you as yours gets filled up. The Singapore fried rice was amazing full of flavour and spices it’s a must try if you’re u certain what to order. Also try the pepper lobster dish it was great pan fried style, but still tasty.
This place is famous for their curry crab with bread or roti and it didn’t disappoint. It was incredible, rich in flavour. Def a treat that everyone should do at least once a year or every couple of years. Lol
Saigon Star is a really great place to go to if you can't decide between Vietnamese, Chinese or Thai cuisines. This restaurant has been a mainstay in the Richmond Hill area for good reason. I've heard about their curry crab dish for the longest time and had to finally try it out for myself. We ordered a few dishes to share as most dishes are their menu are served family style. The curry crab was really the star of the night. Served in a shallow plate, unctuous and expertly-cooked crab gets placed in a well-spiced bath of coconut milk curry, the color of a deep tan. The result is a spicy-yet-silky dish that is close to perfect. Be sure to order a side or two of roti to mop up all that delish sauce! The restaurant also offers gloves if you don't want to get dirty. Be wary that this dish is specially priced and could set you back a pretty penny. We also ordered their Thai plate which had a mix of spring rolls, fish cakes, satay chicken skewers and chicken feet. My favourite was definitely the satay skewers which were grilled just enough so the chicken stayed tender and the peanut sauce was so flavourful. And to finish the meal we each ordered a smoothie. They have quite a number of flavours to choose from and you really can't go wrong with any of them.
