This is our second year staying at Oakapiney. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay in Alpena on a beautiful swimming beach with perfect skipping stones. The kids are entertained from sunup until you finally get them into their beds. There is swimming, building sandcastles, frog hunting, stone skipping, a little swing-set, basketball, a fire-pit, and for rainy days board games on site. There are also plenty of adventures to be had in the area. Dinosaur Gardens down the road for the littler kids, there is a giant playground across the street from the Dinosaur Gardens too. Ocqueoc Falls is about an hour away in Roger's City, a waterfall the family can swim in. Also, the glass bottom boat tour of local Alpena shipwrecks is a fun way to spend an afternoon. The rustic cabins are as close to camping as I ever want to come. Running water, and a wifi connection. ;) The only thing holding them back from a 5 star rating is the beds are not as comfortable as the adults in the family would wish. The futons are nice. Very sturdy with thick padding. The beds themselves (in the cabin we've stayed in the last 2 years) leave a little something to be desired. Tom and Sue are genuinely nice people who love their property as much as you will.

What a beautiful and peaceful place this is! My husband and I just spent a very relaxing week at the Oakapiney Beach Cottages. We swam, we caught up on our reading, walked on the beach, even got up for a sunrise which was awesome. We explored the area and did some wine tasting and hiking. Great restaurants in Alpena and a great breakfast place called Connie's in Ossineke. Contrary to the old review we read on google, our bed was very comfy. The couple that owns the place told us that they've owned it for several years and have made many improvements. We plan to go again next year!

Calm, relaxing, slow paced, beautiful view. 6 cottages of knotty pine wood with rustic decor spaced respectfully apart. Each has it's own view of Lake Huron except cottage 6 tucked in the woods. I was pleased with the amenities as we packed everything we needed to camp just short of a tent, but in addition to the dishware, pots, pans, there were foil, matches, plastic wrap, can opener, wine opener, seasonings for cooking, coffee pot, and kettle. Board games galore, some which take you back in time. Fans for hot nights and gas wood stoves for cool ones. Yes, the beds are firm and you need your own linens but the beautiful sunrises, short access to Lake Huron, umbrellas and beach chairs made available and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows for s'mores make the rate all worth the travel up old 23! Presque Isle lighthouses are 40 minutes by car, there is Arzo fun park for kids, and take a tour on the glass bottom boats to see several shipwrecks.
