A great place to visit and tour. Lots of excellent displays on the history of Cape Breton and how coal mining shaped the region and Canada. Going on the tour of the mine was fun. Be prepared to be crouched down for the tour as the ceiling height is low the provide hard hats. The tour guide was knowledgeable and had many stories to tell about the mining. It is possible to visit this place when on a cruise ship in Sydney which is what I did, just need to make sure your ship all aboard time is after 2:00pm to give time to get back after the first tour of the day.
My friend and I visited here. We really enjoyed it. Going down in to a real mine is something that not many people will experience. Learning and being told all about it from a worker that worked in that mine, was priceless. I can't recommend this enough to anyone of any age.
Hidden gem. Must sign up the underground tour by a local Retired miner who worked 30yrs there. Eric, Thanks for sharing us your personal story. Very touching.
80+ year old miners gives tours sharing actual experiences of working conditions and stories of their lives working in coal mines. Unique opportunity and tour.
This is a tragic visit ! It worth it, the visit into the mine is memorable.nThey don’t talk French and no instruction or video are in French. You have to speak English and understand the Nova Scotia English accent.
