Friendliest coolest wonderfullest bike shop in Halifax. The people at this shop are so wonderful and kind. I have a long convoluted bike theft story and I was so big-time confused while I grieved my old bike that they were so kind about listening to me and advising me about fixing up the other bikes friends gave me or which bikes in the shop I could buy. Eventually I bought a new bike rack and am getting two old bikes fixed up there, but if I decide to trade them in or buy new bike stuff or do anything else bikey, I'll definitely be coming here. I feel like they've explained all the options with my best interests in mind and these are the kind of people that make the world a better place. The shop is absolutely beautiful too. Go in and buy a bell or a helmet or something just to see the gear chandelier and the super-awesome bike art on the windows and above the mantel/cash register. Or a bike! They have lots of cool bikes, new ones and used ones, for sale.
I can't believe I haven't left a review yet! This is the best bike shop I have ever been in my life, period. Honest, humble, helpful. I have been several times to buy accessories, tune-ups, looking for bikes, etc. and they have spent all the time I needed patiently, assessing me for whatever was the best for me. On top of that, they're great people. Keep up the good work! :
First time in, great service. Owner is great and only charged 23 bucks for a brake repair on the spot. One of those good companies as wheel could have needed a repair and said not needed you will fine. No up sell. :
Very pleased! It’s as if I have a brand new bike, even though it’s 32 years old. Excellent service, prices and even better work! If asked, I would have no problem recommending them. I’ll be back again! Thank you Long Alley!
TLDR; My experience is probably an outlier Great staff Really inspect the 300 dollar used green CCM before buying. I’m writing this review 30 mins after my 1-2hour interaction at this store with conflicted and mixed feelings. Firstly the star rating I have given are not a fair representation of the store as a whole but it is as close as I am comfortable giving 2.5 is more accurate. The store should be judged from multiple different facets and not from my one interaction alone otherwise it would be lower. This includes. customer service, stock and overall quality. To no surprise the overwhelmingly majority of reviews for this store certainly reflect its overall pedigree and do serve as an accurate reflection of what you can expect. To that extent what I am writing about is the outlier experience and how this store responded to that with me. As a new arrival to Halifax I was eager to get my hands on a used bike for the purpose of short distance travel around school. Unsurprisingly they had some bikes that could suit that purpose. The staff brought out a dark pine green steel frame CCM bike at around 300 dollars lower with a 10% student discount. I have very little knowledge on the secondary bike market so I will not comment on the price. They let me test ride it and despite its looks it felt good to ride. I was already pushing my budget with ancillary purchases such as a helmet and pump but I was more than content with what I was supposedly receiving and was ready to take the plunge. But during this transaction I wasn’t the most confident buyer for a couple reasons. While showing me the bike it seemed to fall apart before me. The gear shift broke right in front of me while the staff was testing it out. I was assured that it wasn’t suppose to happen. But to that end, It did just happen and seemed to happen quite easily. I didn’t ask any further questions as they took the bike back and had it repaired in several minutes. Finally, before purchasing the bike they pumped the tires for me which although not necessary was a kind gesture. After purchasing the bike and waiting out the flash rainstorm that quickly moved over head I was out the door with my bike. Not yet 500m from the store on the bike lane near Bell road the front tire popped. I lost control of the bike and because it was a steel frame and tires the sudden breaking didn’t put me at a complete stop due to the rain I was made aware of this in the store I swerved into the traffic lane and back and had to crash into the curb to get control again. after the incident I called back the bike store immediately and notified them what happened and they told me I could come back to the store and return it. They have a 90 day guarantee and I therefore returned everything as I was shaken up by the entire experience. During the incident I had lost one of my AirPods without realizing and the staff kindly offered some of his time to look for them. I eventually found them myself in the grass several hundred meters from the store. Needless to say my experience was far from perfect. It was not good and I even contemplated seeking damages for my AirPods if I did not find them. But that perhaps that was the disappointment fueling me at the time. A good experience warrants a good review and in the same breath a bad experience warrants a fair review. And I believe this is as fair and as objective a review I can muster up after my experience. Did the staff handle it well? I think they did but it could’ve been better. Was the product in question good? I certainly don’t think so but it’s a bike so they can actively make it better. Should you come to this store? I think so as I believe my experience is 1/1000 Needless to say I won’t be coming back as the first experience is the most important and I guess I just got unlucky .
These guys definitely know their stuff. They're very knowledgeable and give amazing pricing options. The work is really good and I love how independent they are #shoplocal
Two very personable guys carried my bike up the stairs & fixed my flat & for a very reasonable price! Gave me free advice on tire pressure & setting speeds. I’ll highly recommend them!
Great service from these folk! I needed some urgent work done before heading overseas, and they dropped everything and jumped on it. Great people to chat to too!
I purchased a street bike on Kijiji last spring and rode it around throughout the summer and fall. It was secondhand and I knew it needed some work. Last week, after having it on a trainer during the winter months, I took it in for a tune-up. The staff opened the door for me as I was walking up the stairs and welcomed me into the shop. They asked what I was looking for and made some great recommendations. My bike was ready within a week and now drives like a dream.
Highly recommend Long Alley after they helped me get a rusted bolt off my bike at no charge. All the staff are kind and capable people.
