Story

IdealBikes is a small full service and retail shop located in Downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia. Currently operated under Eric Spinney, we are here for the maintenance and care of your commuter and recreational bicycles: no matter what type it may be. It's our goal to be a positive force in the growth of cycling in Halifax! We carry a carefully selected range of bikes from Felt, Specialized and Raleigh.

Just bought my bike from here, it took me a while to figure out which one I wanted to buy but Ross was awesome! Not only did he help me order in the correct bike for me, but he saved my second option for me just in case. I was able to go for a test drive on the bikes to ensure I got the right one for me. The staff are very knowledgeable and know exactly what you need. They aren't pushy and very easy to talk to. They are a very busy store so sometimes there was a bit of a wait but they will take care of you. Comparing their prices to that of low end Canadian Tire or Walmart is a joke, the products they have in store are top of the line / high end quality, this stuff is built to last. I'll definitely be going back.
Idealbikes were incredibly reasonable in quoting their repairs. They were open to discussing various options to keep the price down. The manager even offered to work around my work schedule to meet in person to discuss the matter. After all was said and done, my repaired bike honestly rides like it's brand new. From what I understand, Idealbikes has at least two employees each with 20- years of experience with bike repair. It shows. It's not just the service that will have me return, but the genuinely helpful people that work there.
Absolutely amazing service and products; the staff really know their stuff and it shows. They went above and beyond to make sure I was properly fitted for my bike frame, seat, helmet - literally anything that was needed and were honest when it came to showing me what I needed - I did not feel like I was being up-sold or pressured into buying anything. People walking in need to understand that these are high quality bikes and products that are meant to last, which means it may seem more expensive than a bike or other accessories you would pick up at WalMart or SportsChek, and this is something that should not be held against the store itself. Overall, the experience there I had was excellent and I will be going to Ideal Bikes for everything bike-related I need from now on.
Ideal bikes has fantastic service. I came in for an issue with my breaks and was out in less than 10 minutes. It turned out to be fixed with some oil in the right place. They didn’t try to sell me anything I didn’t need, like many shops do. I have a lot of trust in their employees and will definitely be back for future services!
Selection of bikes is great. I bought a fat bike there. The guy working there I have interacted with a few times. He pretty pleasent and seems to give honest opinion of things rather than just pushing a sale. Worth checking out if looking for a bike. Often good sales as well.
My husband has gone here twice - once for new pedals and once to get a flat tire fixed. Both times he said that the staff were very helpful and installed the parts/fixed the problem while he waited. We would recommend this shop to anyone in the area!
Ross & Harrison got my commuter back on the road and were great to deal with. They solved mechanical issues that were beyond my wrenching, clearly laid out options & pricing, and then checked and double-checked their repair work. Highly recommended!
Absolutely fantastic, honest service! They let me take two bikes for a straight up ride around the area to compare them and see how they felt, if I hadn't done that I can't say I would've bought the right one. Eric was extremely helpful and friendly.
These guys are awesome! Being new to the sport i don't know much. The advice and honest recommendations are great. I now have a bike i love to ride and explore on. Thanks guys for being so patient and answering all my many questions. I'm an Ideal Bikes girl for life!
When I came in the shop and spoke with the mechanic they said this thing normally takes 20-30 minutes. The next day $80 quote to install a brand new BB and crankset which I knew was compatible other than maybe be a small spacer or something, called in and the price was reduced to $60. Based on $60/hr that's an hour of work. No thanks, refused work and will take my business elsewhere.
