I recently bought a new bike here. The service I received from two staff members Tor and Greg I believe was really exceptional. The staff are knowledgeable, helpful and kind and I appreciate that they all wear masks. I understand this is a locally owned business that pays their employees a living wage, so I would much rather spend money here than a chain store. Very happy with the bike and accessories too!
I moved to Halifax for school in the fall of 2001, and I'm pretty sure that Cyclesmith at it's original location on Quinpool Road was one of the first places I visited. After a few test rides I walked away with a Giant ATX 870. Not the flashiest bike out there, but it was what I could afford and every time it went in for service they treated it like it was worth a million bucks. That makes you feel good about what you've purchased. It survived a major accident in 2002 and the mechanics were fantastic with the rebuild process. Things changed and after about 15 years I was no longer using the bike and made the decision to sell it. Time for it to find a new home and not collect dust. My wife and I are now proud parents and the time came to purchase bikes for everyone. Cyclesmith was the first place that came to mind. I hadn't visited the new location on Agricola yet, and I was blown away by their setup. There are certainly a bunch of faces that I don't recognize, but everyone I approached or was approached by was friendly and helpful. Our two kids were properly fitted for bikes and treated like royalty - they loved every minute of it. I was next, followed by my wife. Four bikes in total and no regrets. I've been back a couple of times for accessories which are discounted for a limited time after you buy a bike! and have had to go through a fitting process for those. Again, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff who made me feel good about my purchases. Both kids started from scratch but were riding within a week on their new wheels - we're all looking forward to group rides on local trails. It's been a fantastic month, and a lot of that revolved around our experience at Cyclesmith. I worked retail throughout COVID and it was an absolute slog. A huge thank you to everyone there for making us feel welcome and safe. I think that's a hard thing to do after what we've all been through. We'll be back, and we'll encourage as many people as possible to do the same.
Snapped my shimano crank and had to buy a new one. Cyclesmith was the only place that had it. After I placed the order Phil personally called me explaining that crank wasn't available, but he had an upgraded one for the same price. I was impressed by the personal touch. I live in northern Ontario and shipping seems very quick. I have since placed a second order for my bottom bracket. This place is a gem.
Very positive experience with Cyclesmith. I ordered a bike trainer online from BC; there's a missing part in the manufacturer's package. Kudos to Philip - he responded quickly and kindly to my inquiry and UPS'ed me a brand new replacement provided with a free return label for the defective product. I will definitely shop again with confidence!
I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience with Cyclesmith in Halifax. I went in three months ago to see what they had available for E-Bikes, and ended up walking out with one... James and any of the other staff members I interacted with were incredibly friendly and knowledgable. I felt comfortable making the purchase knowing I had support from them should I need any assistance. I was especially pleased with the free service that comes with the new bike as long as you bring it back within a certain time window. Just had the bike serviced to tune a few things up, and was again really happy with the help I received. Would definitely recommend Cyclesmith for your next bike purchase!
I brought my 5 year old's bike in today for a tube change and asked about possibly taking off the drive train to turn it into a balance bike. The staff were super helpful in sharing advice and managed to squeeze in the work in just a couple of hours so we could get out biking on this beautiful afternoon! Another staff gave a very helpful pep talk on helping out my 7 year old with biking. In the end, both kids made huge strides this afternoon and I was just really pleased with the quality of care and service!
Ordered a pair of bib shorts during their Boxing Day sale. Got order confirmation and payment was made on my end. Two weeks passed with no contact. Reached out and after hearing my order was cancelled due to fraudulent issues with my card not true. After further emails I was told they emailed me they did not to say that they cancelled my order due to not having enough stock to supply my order, even though everything was in stock when I ordered. I have not been charged for anything, but As a result I will not be receiving my product and they are not willing to source another pair of the bibs I ordered. Not sure why I should be out the product due to their mistake…. Terrible customer service to rectify the issues and make things right. Will not be using this store again. Beware of their misleading sales!!!
Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff. I chose to come here because they pay their staff a living wage, which I believe is about $24/hr in Halifax. I was pleased with the service and selection. L
I went to CycleSmith for the first time yesterday to buy shoes because I just bought a Peloton. I have never even thought of buying bike shoes before, but alas, here I find myself. Anyway, the rookie that I am I figured I should go to where the experts are and experts is what I found! I was met by one of the workers named Matt and he was super attentive and went the extra mile I.e. searching up on Google for me if they had the proper clip on for the shoe to fit the Peloton. To be honest I didn’t even know I needed that extra clip thing so when I say I’m new here, I was actually born yesterday. He even installed these puppies on the shoes for me! After some browsing and picking up some much needed padded shorts, a water bottle, and socks, he recommended a spray to ensure my bike wouldn’t corrode over time. Matt is super informative, and he didn’t take advantage of the fact that I clearly had money to spend because why else would I be at a bike specialty store that sells bikes worth $10K?, but didn’t know what to spend it on. In the end I was so pleased with my experience, I knew I had to write this review! Thank you, Matt for all of your help yesterday, I will most definitely recommend this store now and I will be back for anything bike related in the future :
Kudos to Cyclesmith for giving a living wage to their staff. FOR SURE I’m shopping there and supporting them. A great example of how to make a positive change in the community.
