I want to thank Eva at Customer Service and Fran at Cash for their regard for patrons. They were both so personable, efficient and kind. My appreciation to both of them and I hope this message is brought to their attention. This is why I don't use self checkout .
The prices here are outrageous, and have been growing steadily. On any given day, any item here is at least 20-30% more expensive than you can find it elsewhere. The half-price bins in the produce section frequently have rotting produce that is only suitable for composting, and at still high prices even after the 50% sticker e.g. A bag of $12.99 apples discounted to $6.50 when all the apples have gone off/bruised/brown; you can get same bag of apples elsewhere for $6 before any discount. Oh, and there was that time they tried to pull off the 30% stickers for the same rotting food.... Terrible.nnIt should be said, however, that the staff here are wonderful. They are the saving grace of this store, and I imagine, of Loblaws stores across the country. They are kind and helpful, even when the pricing doesn't make sense, and they are patient and accommodating.nnBecause of the unreasonably high prices of food here, I only shop at Loblaws for a few vegan items I can't find anywhere else in town, but for all else, I find Walmart has the best prices and good produce! oh, and the 50% off bins at Walmart have actually great produce that is still fresh and good to eat, for anyone looking for fruits and veggies on the cheap during winter. You can get an entire 3-4lb bag of slightly ripe bananas for a dollar. never thought I'd be praising a huge Corp like Walmart, but it's the only affordable place to get food these days.
I've been shopping at this Loblaws for almost 3 years now, only because it's the closest grocery store to where I live. In that time, the quality of the food here has been all over the place. A couple of years, ago, it was so bad that I actually wrote a complaint to the store. I got a response from the new assistant manager at the time, and he said things would improve, which they did for a while. Now it seems like they're back at a low point. Today I walked in, and the first thing I saw when entering the store apart from the lack of carts and baskets was a display of clementine oranges that were rotten and moldy see photos. The shelves were almost empty in the rest of the produce section too.nnThis is far from the first incident I've had at this store lately, but it's by far the worst. For these reasons, I've started doing most of my shopping at a different store, despite the longer drive. I never minded paying a bit more for better quality, but who wants to pay more for rotten food?
Prices are sometimes wild and the optimum program is horrible my card has not worked for about a year 6 calls to customer service and no results. One example of the price gouging even at 50% off have to wonder what the farmer got for the cow time to calm out these companies that are taking advantage of us.
I go here for dog treats & a couple things I can't get at other stores. They do have great produce and items you can't get in any other store. They are a bit pricey though.
