Le Maxim is a cute cafe and patisserie that opened up near First Markham place. They have limited seating. Similar to it’s sister bakery at Bayview & Finch, they sell pastries and cakes, as well as cake slices. They specialize in meringue cakes with fresh fruit such as mango and strawberry. Unique to this location is a purple taro cake which clearly has real taro in it. Cash only during soft opening as their POS system hasn’t yet arrived.
Visited Maxim new location in Markham. Service is very friendly and saw they have tables and chairs for dine in. But I opt for taking out. Got the palm leaves and famous egg white cake. Both taste very fresh and crunchy. Their coffee is also very good. Freshly grind. It’s fragrant with mild acidity.
It was my first time to order cake from here. I had to go back another day cause they didn’t have the chestnut cake whole cake 6” that I wanted the first time I walk in. Therefore, if you want a specific whole cake instead of their sliced cake, you better order in advance. The chestnut cake was ok but I found it too creamy and too rich. There wasn’t too much sponge cake in it. It tasted like I was eating cream only. I prefer less cream and more sponge cake. Their cake selection was quite limited. They are mostly famous for their Meringue cake, so I assume that one maybe better.
There's a new trendy new cake shop in Markham! So happy Maxim's decided to open another location original location at Bayview and Finch. They brought over their famous meringue cakes along with new and instagramable cakes! Their staff provides prompt and friendly service. Will definitely be back to enjoy a piece of cake, sit back and relax in their chic tables.
Got a 10” strawberry meringue cake for my birthday - it was in a different form than what I’m traditionally used to but still tastes great and was easier to cut! Everything in combination was a little too sweet and could use more adjustments to suit an Asian palette. I’m personally not a fan of the glitter as it sits on top of rose petals that I assume isn’t edible.
Been to this location 3 times. Each time the staff are nice and friendly. First time I got a cake for my coworkers, and I need certain words in Chinese. The staff didn't know how to write Chinese. I didn't know how to write it as well. She googled it for me. And then she did the writing stroke by stroke from a piece of paper. Second time I went in and actually didn't get anything, but the staff was still nice about it. I didn't feel the pressure of buying anything. Today was my third time. I didn't order a cake ahead of time. I went in and asked if they still have any meringue cake. They told me they can make it, but I just need to wait. They asked me what size, and I pointed to the size I wanted which was a 8". Somehow there was a miscommunication and she came out with a 6" i didn't know they make 6" meringue cake actually, never saw it on display before. I asked if they can do a 8" instead, and she did. I would have taken the 6" since she made it already, but just glad that she was so willing to switch it to a 8". Overall the customer service at this location was great, and all 3 staff had smiles on their faces. The taste of the cake was great. It was better than the other Maxim location in Richmond Hill different owner apparently. The cream was a little less sweet, and it was creamier than the other location. The meringue portion was also a little less sweet and had a little bit more nuts as well. Decoration wise it was a nice touch she put some flowers and a petal on the cake. :
Sorry about the pictures. Had to try it out first to give a proper review. Ordered thr 6in chestnut cake. It is my first time trying it out. Personally, cake is very mediocre and eh... Either I picked a bad one or I should've gotten their meringue cake. For a chestnut cake, this is one of the lower tier cakes that I've had. As for customer service, there were 2 workers working behind the counter, but none of them greeted us even though we wefe pretty much the only ones there besides one other customer sitting at a table. I didn't care much about the service since i am only getting a cake for takeout, but be prepared that you have to be the one to get their attention. I might give this place another try for the meringue cake, but other than that, I don't think there's anything else special about this place. Taste is 4/10
Went today as it's their grand opening. No one in line when I got in and there were like 4 or 5 people behind the counter not knowing what they were busy at and I made eye contact with 2 people just they didn't do anything. So I called one young gentleman what I want. Got 6 slice cakes and of course my favorite mango almond meringue. Went to pay at the cashier but seems like things aren't ready and organized as they were calculating manually, won't take credit cards only cash but they offered 10% today.
When I found out maxim’s opened up another location, was super excited! First off, one in markham, secondly, can get their almond crunch cakes whenever I want! Trust me, they are the OGs of the almond crunch cake in toronto! So if anyone knows how to do it, it would be them! This time, I went with a mango shortcake, so for me, I only know of a strawberry shortcake, so you know I had to try it out! The mango was fresh, the cream was fresh and those gold flakes on top was just that touch of sophistication that this cake needed! Service was great as I really did want the almond crunch cake, however, the other cakes were just as tempting and the lady helping me out didn’t rush me at all to make a decision Definitely excited that they’re in markham, so be on the lookout for when I get the almond crunch cake! You might catch a glimpse of it soon on my IG! Great job overall! Follow me on IG @thirst_and_taste for better pics, vids and more amazing content!
First time leaving a review, ordered the purple taro cake for my Filipino friend's birthday. They absolutely loved it, wasn't too sweet and had real taro as a layer inside! Service - I arrived a little earlier to pick up the cake. I was offered tea on the house as they were getting the cake ready. It was a relaxing experience as I sat at the tables and waited.
