La Taquisa - Vic West

I used to go here regularly with my partner and would always recommend it to friends as it used to be AMAZING! There has been some pretty drastic changes in the portion sizes and the prices have not changed to reflect that. The flavor is great but now the burritos are easily half the size they used to be. We would order the biggest burritos (El Gordo) and would easily have been stuffed by the end. Now they are skimpy and you are still hungry after! We will not be returning as this size difference has been consistent for the last few times and when confronting the staff they said that is the proper size. Tacofino is hands down better value and will be our new go to taco/ burrito place.

My favorite place to eat in Victoria. The staff are always busy prepping food in the back . Everything tastes fresh and made from scratch. I always get the El Gordo on a platter instead of in a burrito with chicken mole, shrimp and extra super spicy brava salsa (comes with 3 corn tortillas if you get on a platter instead of in a burrito). Staff are very friendly. I like that the super spicy salsa is actually somewhat spicy, its hard to find spicy food at any restaurant. Some of the other Mexican restaurants in Victoria do not even have spicy as an option.

La Taquisa on Wilson street has, for the past few years, been my go-to place for Mexican food in Victoria. I have brought countless friends and family members, who were over for a visit, to the restaurant which I talked so highly about. However, in the past few weeks/months, there has been a change. New management? I'm not sure. But what I can tell you is that the end product has suffered. The burritos which were once large and filled to capacity are now limp and half empty. I can vividly remember my first few experiences of going to the restaurant and thinking to myself "WHOA! This thing is HUGE! It must weigh over 1 kilo?!?!''. No longer. Not even close! On top of that, all the products have gone up in price. So, customers are now charged extra for an inferior product. Why? Sure, they still taste great but the value is no longer there. I've been a few times since, each time hoping it was just a fluke or an employee having a bad day. Sadly, it wasn't. La Taquisa has changed and we will not be returning nor bringing any visiting friends and family in the future. What a shame.

We love the food and the service is always great. My husbands favorite is the chinga tinga.
