Me and my boyfriend tried the salted egg croissant and the salted egg roll. To be honest, they aren't worth the hype like Blog To talked about. The salted eggs as well as the egg sauce from both of them are pretty plain, lack of flavors to me is not salty enough. If you want a mild flavor of salted eggs, they are fine. I was really excited because I tried plenty of salted egg cakes before in Vietnam. However, I was kinda disappointed since the flavors are not really authentic to me. Maybe I haven't tried the best here so I will come back to experience more. The plus points are probably is the cute store, nice customer service, buttery layers of croissant which I love and it is Vietnamese owned. It's a new store so I hope the quality will be improved in the near future.
Been wanting to try LA LA Bakeshop ever since I know they make cakes with salted egg yolks. My goodness, you know, I'm a salted egg yolks maniac!!!!!!!! But for some reason I just never had a chance to stop by. So it's like mothership calling me home when they opened a store in Scarborough, only 10 mins from my home. I made my order online - 6 inch Salted Egg Cake, 2 Lava Salted Egg Bun and a Durian Mini Cake. The website is well designed and easy to navigate. When I went pickup my order, the staff were so friendly and polite. The packaging was clean and elegant, exactly the style I love. The food? O-M-G... IT IS HEAVEN!!! The Bun is so soft and fluffy and it's filled with so much salted egg lava that I literally needed to lick my plate to finish it. The cake is completely out of this world. Pork floss and salted egg compliment each other so damn well. The cake layers are dense and soft with just the right amount of taste to go with other ingredients. Everything are well balanced. Though using such simple and down-to-earth ingredients, the cake doesn't feel cheap at all. It's very well made indeed. I haven't touched the Durian Mini Cake yet. But by the taste of their bun and cake, I already know I'll love it. I will come back for sure!
One of the best spots for Vietnamese treats with a twist! So many people giving off reviews don’t keep an open mind to how things could potentially taste. This is one of the things people have to do especially when trying something new! Their best seller, the salted egg cake, is insanely delicious. Salted egg when done properly in treats isn’t that salty at all. It’s not the typical super sweet eggs you get from other cream types, but it’s got a nice thick consistency and this also made into a cream in this instance is just so nice! Coating the pound cake with every bite and you get the savoury-ness from the addition of the pork floss just thrown on top of the cake. I can totally see why the hype is there! Don’t get me wrong, also had the viet coffee tiramisu and nice strong coffee flavour alongside that smooth cream layer. Just keep in mind when you read bakery, they are a bakery and just because it’s not your typical French patisserie or vienoisserie doesn’t make it any less of a bakery! Great job to everyone that works here and cannot wait to come back for more of that salted egg cake and of course those new croissants! I got their viet coffee tiramisu which was tasty but it was very runny. I feel like maybe the temperature was a bit high where they were stored but every bite it just kind of caved in and luckily it was held together inside a plastic square container otherwise eating this would’ve been messy. Their condensed milk croissant was a bit of a disappointment. It had a surprisingly salty taste which kind of threw me off. I don’t know if I would come back here for their desserts.
• Croissant Banh Mi: Different and good. Priced to high for what it is. • Consider some type of “rewards” program? • Get there early to avoid disappointment cause things go quick. • Needs improvement on their POS system so it’s reliable for cashless payments. Review: Overall it’s a great place to try out and to enjoy the different flavours they have to offer. The croissant banh Mi was different and pretty good but priced way to high knowing how much an actual banh Mi cost. The pork floss with custard filling was my favourite. That sweet and salty ratio was bang on. The coconut sticky rice was $14 and feeds two. Would I come back…maybe in a couple of months but not a place I would frequent unfortunately due to pricing and compared to other establishments that offer the same type of items.
If you're looking for a delicious and authentic Vietnamese iced coffee, La La Bakeshop is the perfect place to go. They make their coffee using a traditional phin filter, so you know it's going to be good. The coffee is always fresh and the staff is always friendly, so you'll definitely enjoy your experience here. They have the best selection of vietnamese pastries in town and their prices are very reasonable. They even have a banh mi made with a croissant.
A decent tiny store located in a huge plaza. You may find many many parking lots. The store has a gentle color design with a feature wall that store’s name on it. Probably for check-in or selfie if you like. Because it does take-out only. There is few chairs for you while waiting for staff to pack up. The bun is awesome. Highly recommend.
Definitely great to see more Asian-owned places and good food options near us, but I personally thought the sweets from here were only OK. We ordered an assortment of salted egg treats, but nothing really stood out in terms of flavour. Perhaps we need to try some different items or the other location in the city in the future!
I ordered the Vietnamese coffee tiramisu cake online for pickup for a birthday. It came with a cake topper at your request we broke the top of ours in the photo too. The flavor was good but not too much coffee flavor - the cream was very creamy and nice but maybe more cream than cake haha. Regardless it was good and reasonably priced as well.
I was very excited to try this place for the grand opening and ordered their salted egg cake. The website was easy to use and the pictures and the flavours that they offer are so unique! When I brought it home, I noticed that the cake was smaller than advertised. The website does say it's 6" and I've ordered a lot of 6" cakes before to know that this was not 6". I decided to measure the cake and it just meets 5". SO if you plan to order this cake, do expect a smaller size than regular 6" cakes out there. The flavour was unique but I'm not sure if it was for me. Perhaps, I need to try the other goodies in the bakery. Overall, it's worth a try if you're looking for a distinct cake and taste. UPDATE/RESPONSE: Thanks for the prompt response. I would love to hear your response on these as your reply makes me raise some questions: 1. I'm surprised you did not "notice" and had to "measure" your cakes again. As a person who doesn't eat or make cakes on a daily basis, this was quite noticeable, AND if it's just one cake that was substantially smaller than the rest of the batch, that would be very obvious. How could this slip from your entire team? 2. Do you NOT inspect your cakes before giving it to customers? I'm sure there were many opportunities to ensure the cake passed its quality during baking, pulling out of oven, and packaging etc. 3. Have you not nailed down your baking process that it "accidentally" shrunk after coming out of the oven? Are all cakes different then? 1/6 of cake that shrunk should not be a "bit" considering this is something that's advertised. I would really love to try the "REAL" cake that I supposedly ordered.
