April 2022 4 Located inside a small dusty strip mall, you'll find this old bakery. This bakery has been here for well over 25 years as of writing. Of course, nothing has changed and the interiors look exactly like it was back then. Many of the bakery items haven't changed much and you'll find the traditional Chinese items. One favorite is the egg white cake. 2 @ 15$. Light, fluffy and a little sweet, if you like angel food cake, this is the lighter and seemingly more healthy option. Parking available. A good selection. Would recommend if you are in the area.
The line up was long every time I went. I bought wife pastry sweet husband pastry salty black sesame glutinous rice ball custard inside $1.30 each peanut glutinous rice ball $1.10 each taro cake $12, only available during Chinese New Year month. The shop is really small, only allow one person to be inside at a time. It's my first time trying their taro cake. I found it to be expensive but still want to try it. It's not bad. I prefer to have the white glutinous rice ball because it has lots of peanut inside.
my favourite Chinese bakery, their egg tarts are divine. enjoyed even better if they’re freshly out of the oven. Make sure to come early if you want to avoid lineups! They have other items that are also very good and not typically sold at Chinese bakeries including sweetheart cakes and different types of rice puddings.
I am a egg tart lover and would visit different bakeries to try out their products. I recently realized that I have been going to the wrong store with the same name on Milliken Blvd so I made this trip to visit the original. I was surprised by the long line up as the store only allow 1 customer at a time. I waited 15 minutes to get in so I decided to buy more than planned, bought half a dozen of egg tarts, 6 variety buns and 2 sponge cakes @$1.80 each. The buns are 2.60 for 3, sizes are relatively small but the quality is amazing! The egg tarts are very good except the bottom of the crust is a little over cooked. I will definitely visit often!
One of my favourite places to get egg tart and an array of Asian baked goods. I waited over 15 minutes just to get into the shop on a Saturday afternoon so that gives you an indication of how popular their baked goods are. This time I bought their mango cheesecake to try it and am sooo glad I did. It is amazingly good! I am not a fan of traditional cheesecake. Even Japanese cheesecake I find is too cheesy. This one is perfect. Beautiful layers, fresh delicious fruit, and amazing flavour without it being too cheesy. It is not too big so you can enjoy it without a lot of left overs. Will definitely be buying it again the next time I’m in Scarborough. Another positive if this place is their baked goods the pineapple buns are smaller in size compared to other places which Is a perfect portion size for a snack, for kids or for elderly folk. The crusts on the egg tarts are flakey, light and not oily and the custard is just perfect. The “wife cake” is also the best there is in the GTA. I have tried to find a comparable one at about 2 dozen different bakeries and keep coming back up this one. They don’t skimp on the filling here and it’s the perfect amount of chewiness, sweetness and flavour. Every time I’m in the area I make it a point to stop my and get something from Fragrant Bakery. It’s definitely one of my happy places.
Best in town Lao Por Beng wife cake, chewy, and you can choose less sweet or regular sweet. And most importantly they are freshly baked every day! They also have other traditional Chinese pastries egg tart, sponge cake, century egg pastry. Always a line in front of the store, no matter what time of the day you're there!
Visited on Sunday. Egg tarts, pineapple buns, wife cakes are all freshly out just before 10am. Wife cake is quite filling. Egg tarts are good. Wished paper bags was available for packing. It would absorb some moisture from the freshly baked goods.
My favourite dan tat in the city. Pure bliss to eat one that is still warm immediately outside of the car in the parking lot. Both because I can’t wait and also because it’s so flaky and will make a total mess. Typically always fresh due to demand. You sometimes have to wait. If it’s that fresh, pop the tops so things don’t get soggy. Located inside the mall. Find HK Tea in the food court around the corner.
This place is known for their winter melon patty round I’m not sure it’s proper name. It was a very flakey pastry and the filling wasn’t too sweet. It was still warm too bonus It doesn’t have a great variety though. Also go the Chinese rice krispy square aka sachima. Good size!!! Ok so I’ve eaten it now and it’s not very sweet. I think I would of preferred it with a bit more stickiness aka sweetness but it will do in a pinch.
I have been a regular customer for their delicious egg tarts. Every time I am in the area, I make sure to stop by and grab a dozen. The egg tarts are always fresh and have the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess. The crust is flaky and buttery, making for a perfect treat. The bakery itself is small and simple. The only downside is that it is a cash only place, so make sure to come prepared. Overall, this is my go-to spot for egg tarts and I highly recommend it to anyone in the area looking for a tasty treat.
