L'Express

Story

Bistro français très réputé sur le Plateau Mont-Royal à Montréal ouvert pour les petits-déjeuners, déjeuner et diner depuis 1980.

Famous French bistro, located on the Plateau Mont-Royal in Montréal, opened for breakfast, lunch and dinner since 1980.

Right worth the hype! Did some research and this was top 3 on my list and after visit, I think this is my favorite in Montreal! Service was excellent and offered a booster seat for our toddler and brought over crayons for drawing which was a huge help. Food was so tasty and came with complimentary pickles with mustard. I was in heaven! The wine list was great! It’s hard for find Chablis by glass and they had it - delicious! Overall, it was 10/10! When we visit Montreal next, can’t wait to come here again!
Very nice, classic French restaurant. The dishes we got definitely hit the spot. Everything was prepared perfectly, not too heavy and the waiter gives great, detailed recommendations for drinks and food. For what we ordered, I find the pricing of the food was fair, not overly expensive.nYou would definitely see me back at L’express.
Three of us came to dine for an early dinner on Friday night. I was not a fan that they sat the 3 of us at a two person table with one of us sitting at the “aisle”. It wasn’t particularly busy at this time so I think we could have been better accommodated. Other than that, the food is delicious, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. Portion sizing is quite large too! We had the duck confit, hanger steak and fries and the chicken. They also provide fresh bread and a large jar of pickles - a very nice touch. We also had the espresso creme brulee to share at the end which we would highly recommend. All in all, very well done and would recommend to anyone who is looking for great french food!
Grilled octopus 4/5nThe octopus was soft and the grilled peppers were nice.nnBeef tartare - Tartare de boeuf 3.5/5nAverage, with options for spicy or no spicy.nnDuck confit - Cuisse de canard confite 5/5nThe duck skin was perfectly crispy and absolutely delicious.nnRoasted quail with wild rice - Cailles rôties et riz sauvage 3/5nThe quail was tasty, but the wild rice was too hard.nnShrimp and chorizo risotto - Risotto aux crevettes et chorizo 5/5nMy favorite! The heavy cheese flavor paired wonderfully with the cornichons.nnMaple Profiteroles - Profiteroles à l’érable 5/5nA delightful surprise! Freshly baked and crispy profiteroles filled with maple ice cream, absolutely the best I've ever had!nnChocolate tart - Tarte au chocolat 4/5nRich chocolate flavor, but too bitter for me. It definitely needs extra ice cream on the side.nnStrawberry tart 5/5nI couldn't find its name on the menu, but it was very fruity and delicious.nnThe most delicious restaurant I had in this trip to Montreal, from main course to dessert, all delicious!
Just a classic place with knowledge staff, really low key but fine dining at the same time.nnThis place is an institution - and you can tell why. I had the steak fritz and bone marrow - super luscious meal and great wine pairing. Cannot wait to go back - chefs kiss for sure
