This is one of the best dining experiences in Canada. Our experience that evening was perfect, from the food to the service. Every dish was so well crafted and they were all delicious.nnDuck in a Can is not a gimmick, it’s a flavour explosion packed in a can. Another mind blowing must-try is the Foie Gras Nigiri. The rich and smooth Foie Gras paired with Japanese rice drizzled with maple-infused soy is absolutely delicious.nnAnother incredibly creative dish was the Foie Gras Mapo Tofu that doesn’t seem to be a staple on the menu, but we’re glad we got to try it. The pork shank and pork chops were also cooked to perfection. Stop reading this review and start reserving a table!
It got packed few minutes after we got seated, but the staff were friendly and on top of everything. Every dish that came out was bold, and rich in flavour.nnWe ordered:nn• Duck temaki: it was savoury, and packed with umami. The anchovies gave it that sharp hit that cut through the duck's fattiness beautifully.nn• Foie gras terrine + truffled maple butter: a silky and buttery, also delicately sweet dish, with the truffle rounding out everything nicely.nn• Mapo Tofu & Foie Gras: such an unexpected combo that works. Rich, spicy, and a little chaotic, but in a good way.nn• Beef Tripe: hearty, comforting, and full of texture.nnEverything here is flavour-forward. The foie gras is definitely the star, and they’re not shy about using it.nnI’d absolutely come back here when I’m in Montreal again. Next time, I'm trying their famous Duck in a Can and maybe foie gras poutine.
Absolutely phenomenal experience at Au Pied de Cochon! From the warm welcome to the last sip of my cocktail, everything was perfection. The foie gras poutine is pure decadence, rich, creamy, unforgettable. The duck in a can? A showstopper tender, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. Every plate felt crafted with passion and precision. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely proud of what they serve. Cozy, lively ambiance with that classic Montreal charm. Easily one of the best dining experiences in the city indulgent, bold, and unforgettable…Definitely going back soon
This is a long-standing restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere. The space feels warm and classic, very much an old-school American style, and the service was attentive and kind throughout the evening.nnUnfortunately, the food itself was very difficult for me to enjoy. Several dishes had strong gamey odors and pronounced alcohol notes, and the flavors did not come together harmoniously.nnThe foie gras sushi had a noticeable clash between the gamey taste of the foie gras and the alcohol used in preparation. Even with soy sauce, the flavors did not integrate at all. I managed to eat one piece but could not finish the second.nnThe pork knuckle had an overwhelming porky smell, and there were visible pig hairs on the skin. I understand that occasional hairs can happen, but the amount here was significant and affected the overall experience. The mushrooms served with it had absorbed both the pork odor and what tasted like high-proof cooking wine; the alcohol flavor felt harsh, as if it had not fully cooked off. Among all the components of this dish, the mashed potatoes were the only element I genuinely enjoyed.nnThe temaki, on the other hand, was decent and ended up being my favorite dish of the night.nnI do want to highlight the service: when I explained that I truly could not eat the pork knuckle, the staff were very understanding and handled the situation professionally. They offered compensation, and the dish was ultimately discounted by 50%, which I appreciated.nnOverall, while the ambience and service were strong, the execution and flavor balance of the food were disappointing, especially for a restaurant known for foie gras and rich, offal-forward dishes. I would have expected cleaner preparation and more refined flavor control.
We visited this restaurant while on vacation under the recommendation of so many and I cannot recommend it enough for delicious food. It is very lively inside and a bit chaotic, but the staff are friendly and attentive.nnEvery dish was an interesting take on traditional foods. Highly recommend the duck in a can - the can is opened at the table and the duck comes out rare, I was very impressednnIt is very fairly priced for the quality and we rolled out so full!nHighly recommend if you are in Montreal!
