The food is delicious, and the portions are much bigger than you'd expect. The main idea behind the dishes are all the same, but they do come in a variety of tasty sauces. I've tried several varieties and love them all. If you order take out, the food is packed nicely and arrives still very hot, and crispy nor soggy. My only issue is with the dine in experience. We had different waiters try to take our order, even after we place an order, and different waiters try to cash us out. Otherwise, this is a great restaurant.
Very cool place! They have a cozy location but they don’t have many tables, so get ready to the line if it’s a rush hours. The service is super gentle and fast. The portions are huge and so crunchy as it is Katsuya style We tried appetizer and Garlic Chicken Katsuya.
I really love this location. The food is incredible for the price and its an awesome date spot if you’re craving Japanese food. The crab croquettes are slept on, they were so delicious and honestly the best. I haven’t found many places that serve it the way Katsuya does. The karage chicken was great as well, I really enjoy the light batter they use, and the side sauces that come with it are all super unique and innovative.
The food is great! We ordered curry pork and two appetizers including one deep fried takoyaki. It would have been better if there were more octopus in the takoyaki. The main dish is nearly $20 but has a good portion. The rice seems smaller but it's enough considering the generous amount of meat. Service can be better in my opinion. We had to wait and get the waitress attention for a missing napkin and spoons for our main dishes.
Delicious indulgence with a great selection of pork, chicken or cheese Katsu with yummy sauces. Recommend to try the original, our table’s favorite was the mayocomb. Portion are big and shareable. Recommend!
I came here on a Saturday evening with a group of friends for dinner. One of my friends had suggested this place to eat since she had tried it before. It wasn't too busy when we came so we were seated quickly. They have a lot of choices on their menu. The most noticeable difference would be the type of sauce used. You can also select the type of katsu that you desire from pork, chicken, fish and cheese. We have ordered the following: Takoyaki One of my friend had ordered these as an appetizer. These deep-friend takoyaki little round balls containing pieces of octopus with special panko breadcrumbs were super crispy. She said that the price was fair and was worth it . Japanese Pork Loin Katsu A few of my friends ordered the traditional Japanese style katsu with Worcestershire sauce mixed with various vegetables and fruits. The Worcestershire sauce is fermented condiment made from a base of vinegar and flavoured with anchovies, molasses, tamarind, onion, garlic and other seasonings. The flavour is savoury and sweet with a distinct taste provided by the vinegar. They said that these were delicious, crispy and tender. It also came with a suribachi and surikoji Japanese mortar & pestle to grind sesame seeds to a powder form. The first thing you do is to grind the sesame seeds finely. Next, you add in your desired amount of Worcestershire sauce, mix well and dip in a slice of the juicy katsu. It is an exquisite culinary experience ! Garlic Chili Pork Loin Katsu One of my friend that came here previously loved the garlic chili katsu which is complemented with deep-fried fresh garlic. The amount of garlic overload on top of the katsu along with a kick of spice made it a super tasty dish. The amount of spice added was perfect for her and it wasn't too spicy. Garlic Spicy Chicken Katsu I ordered the garlic spicy katsu. It is one of the spiciest katsus on their menu and it is complemented with deep-fried fresh garlic. I didn't find it too spicy but it could be for others depending on their spice tolerance. All of their katsus were super juicy, crunchy bite of pan-fried pork/chicken cutlet and laced with subtle flavours of garlic and parsley. Each bite features a shatteringly crunch exterior which I like to call it the "Panko CRUNCH". That is going to get a 'WOW' moment and a fire . The Panko crunch is used in Japanese katsu and it is the excellent ingredient for its crunchy and crispy coating. Panko are Japanese style breadcrumbs that are made from white bread that have no crusts. The flakes are visibility larger than Italian style breadcrumbs, for example, and you wind up with this magnificent crunchy, yet still very light texture. If you are a fan of Japanese katsu, I would strongly recommend giving these unique combinations a try! It is absolutely delicious and makes for a satisfying meal at any time of the day .
This branch of Katsuya has been a favorite go to for me and my friends when we were undergrads in the area. We finally returned again after 2 years away, and I'm delighted to say that the place remains an excellent place to be. The food is well done. Miso soup was replaced with udon soup, or at least I think that's what I was told that day. It's fine though. The food presentation was nice, the staff was warm and friendly but also gave us privacy too. The indoor decor remains the same from 2 years ago but that's perfectly fine. They still take credit cards and so far they haven't hit us with credit card surcharge fee, and that's appreciated. I hope to come back again with my friends. Katsuya remains a wonderful hang out in the area!
I honestly love this place - I’ve been a couple times and always leave satisfied and full. The katsu is tender and crispy, and the sauces are delicious. If you like spicy food, I’d highly recommend the red carbonara sauce. The karaage and udon are also great. The portions are huge and can easily be two meals, so asking for the sauce on the side isn’t a bad idea. Oh and they give you udon broth soup to start, which compliments the meal really well! The environment is pleasant, clean and casual. It can get a bit busy during dinner time on weekends, so you may have to wait for a table but it’s well worth it. Helpful tip: If you check in on Yelp, they give you a free soft drink. I’d definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for something filling and casual. You won’t be disappointed.
I ordered pork Katsu with cheese and honey butter fries. The size was bigger than I expected. It was a good amount but the meat itself didn’t have much taste like with salt and pepper, so I personally didn’t really like it a lot but still if you like a fan of katsu, you should try it. They have so many different flavor options to choose from. Honey butter was amazing. It’s addictive.
A LOT of cheese, more than we could handle frankly! The breading was tasty though - I'd love to try again without the cheese though! A lot of the menu items have peanuts. These are marked on the menu, but it does limit your options a bit if you have allergies like me.
