This place is such a gem. An unassuming store front from the exterior but we were extremely satisfied with the quality of food we tried! As a bonus, the desserts were amazing and they had such unique cake flavours! The service and hospitality was also perfect
Focused on Shokudo-style Japanese cuisine. If you live in Scarborough consider yourself lucky: long-standing gem is one of the GTA’s premiere spots for authentic, high-quality Japanese cuisine. If you’re elsewhere in the GTA - or from out of town - it’s well worth the trip off the beaten path to the small commercial strip where Café Michi resides. They are justifiably famous for their sushi & sashimi, their Japanese curry, and their bento. But they also rock less commonly available dishes like Chawanmushi, Gyudon arguably the best in the GTA and their amazing, in-house made desserts. We had spent a long day hiking before our most recent visit so we were able to order more food than usual. We enjoyed several starters in advance of our main dishes, including Chawanmushi, Karaage, Maguro Nigiri and Hamachi Sashimi. Everything was outstanding, with the fresh, generous portions of fish standing out amongst an already stellar line up of dishes. For our main dishes we enjoyed a chicken katsu Japanese curry with rice and a bowl of absolutely divine chicken teriyaki so unlike what most teriyaki is like - and so much better!. One of us ordered the full meal combo, which includes a side salad and a bowl of miso soup. And while the salad is always yummy fabulous sesame dressing, admittedly we were craving the miso soup, which Michi absolutely rocks. For dessert we enjoyed a sublime slice of sake mousse chocolate cake. Like all of Michi’s desserts this slice of food heaven was typical of the Japanese approach to dessert: a symphony of flavours so unlike the often too-sweet concoctions of European origin. This amazing meal, which included tea, was only $110 inclusive of tax and tip - outstanding value for both the quantity and quality of food. Highly recommended.
Amazing set with fried chicken sauce was perfect and chi ken hot +eel rice sour plum vinegar flavoured rice with finely chopped seaweed n eggs + sashimi. Sashimi set was perfectly done in terms of size, taste and temperature. Our lunch sets came with soup, salad, hot drink and dessert too. On the note side...Portion slightly on the smaller as with seating. Coffee wasn't strong either but green matcha tea was a better option. Chiffon cake also slightly soggy. But Earl Grey cake and green tea with red bean was perfectly balance and not too sweet.
Cafe Michi is a small and intimate eatery serving home style Japanese favourites and delicious and original cakes. Toronto has no shortage of sushi and ramen restaurants and searching for “Japanese” on Google reviews will return many similar restaurants with nearly identical menus. Cafe Michi, meanwhile, also offers a full sushi menu, but they also offer a variety of less commonly available Japanese dishes including curries, rice bowls and hot pots. We ordered the Toritama and Curry Udon Hotpot for our mains and were immensely satisfied: everything tasted hot, fresh and authentic! Ordered in a set, it came with tea, salad, a bowl of miso soup, and a slice of cake. For desert, we had the the Sake Chocolate Mousse and Red Bean and Green Tea Cake. Both cakes were also superb! We also ordered a croquette as an appetizer, which was perfectly crispy! There is not much seating, so reservations are recommended if you plan to visit at peak hours.
Le Cafe Michi is a small little Japanese cafe located in a little plaza in Scarborough. Although the location is not great, but it has been there for many years. We ordered katsu curry, sukiyaki hot pot, and sashimi sampler appetizer. Sashimi came with 12-14 pieces depending on the day. The size of the sashimi is on the smaller side, but it is very fresh. Sukiyaki hot pot is great for winter, it keeps you warm while having the hot pot. Lots of beef and vegetables in the hot pot, more than enough for one person. The katsu curry to be honest is a bit disappointing, size is good but nothing special at all compare to the sukiyaki hot pot and the sashimi. All dinner set comes with salad, tea, and cake for dessert, remember to leave some room for dessert! Price is on the higher side, but quality and size make up for it.
Sad this place is closing down but deserves the 5 star review before they do. Very homey authentic Japanese food with delicious light cakes with every set meal. I'll miss it!Food: 5/5
We tried Le Cafe Michi for lunch as we wanted to try their cakes as well. Each of their food items has the ability to come in a combo with salad, miso soup and a cake slice of your choosing. I got the Beef Curry whereas the rest of my table got a Don and sukiyaki. For our cake slices, we chose the hojicha cheesecake and the bailey cheesecake. The food items were good but the cakes were the highlight. Each set also came with the option of tea or coffee which was a nice complement. Overall very nice cafe and would come back.
This is your normal family run Japanese restaurant/cafe! Yes I admit that the price is a bit higher than others but the food is good! And if you are a regular customer, they might surprise you with small gifts lol Btw, don't forget to ask them about their secret pie menu lol it's not on their actually menu and you have to order the pies by just asking the staff there a few days ahead. The pies are simply amazing! I personally like their pear pie. But they have others as well.
A family run restaurant by Japanese people. It has been there for about 12 years according to the chef. The inside is small so make sure to book a reservation in advance especially if you come at weekends and on Fridays. I ordered Chochin bento and it was delicious! Although the price is on the expensive side, it is probably because of the cost of shashimi-level raw fish. I strongly recommend the tofu cheese cake!
Portion size is good and food is always tasty. Price is very reasonable once the quality and size are factored into the equation. Always full and satisfied after the meal.
