Room 730 is oddly configured...tiny little shower & toilet room on one side, then a separate small sink and coat closet consolidated space across from it. Shower water pressure is abysmal. Bed duvet smells weird. Rest of the room is great, excellent layout & the climate control is perfectly regulated by the thermostat. Housekeeper Andrea is an absolute angel, she helped us out several times with a big, warm smile and a happy personality...she could really teach the hospitality industry something about superior service! Hotel location is decent, some good local spots within easy walking distance. Breakfast staff are awesome, quick to clear used dishes & refill empty coffee cups. Front desk guys at night aren't overachieving at anything, just doing the bare minimum.
It was a good hotel! The lobby is very pretty with chandeliers hanging from above the staircases. And the rooms are nice! The breakfast is not free $22 for standard breakfast and $26 dollars for full hot buffet breakfast which as an American is unusual for me. I definitely recommend getting the full hot buffet breakfast, it's only $4 more and gives you access to pancakes and waffles ect. It's in a good location with many good spots to eat only a block or two away. The only downside is the layout of the hotel, many of the rooms are in a back area of the building that is much farther away than the normal rooms which is annoying when you have bags. But yeah it's still a good place to stay!
Stayed here since we had an appointment at the St Paul's hospital. The check-in person was very friendly, informative and gave us an upgrade to a larger room and breakfast vouchers because of my status with IHG. Parking is a bit steep at $45 bucks a night but it was secure and covered. The rooms looked recently updated and were clean and quiet for a downtown building. We will definitely stay there again for our next appointments.
Location was great and we can get to everywhere fairly quickly.nnRoom was spacious with twin double bed giving ample sleeping space. Bathroom only have mounted shower head, I will prefer if there is handheld shower head.nnThe air condition was not working very well, it was warm and we tired to adjust with the control pad but effect was poor. We had to open the window to let cool air in so we will not wake up in sweat.nnStaff were very polite and welcoming.
The location is okay. Downtown, but not in a great area of the downtown. People with crack pipes a block away...didn't feel comfortable walking at night, whereas other hotels I've stayed at in the downtown core felt much safer.nThe room was clean, but walls thin as paper. Could hear other guests having conversations in their rooms late into the night, and construction started at 7:30am with no warning from the front desk.nWe took the stairs down to get a bit of activity before dinner, and they lead to what seems like a locked cage. We went back up to our floor because you can only get out of the stairwell at certain floors and took the elevator down. Asked at the front desk about using the stairs to exit the hotel and he said in a snotty tone that we had used the correct stairwell but you just have to push on the cage door, and it will make the fire alarm go off. Okay...so if the alarm is going off and guests are in a panic... they'll go down that stairwell, think they're locked in, and cause a major back up to evacuating...nWe didn't find out until check in that the pool is closed...one of our main reasons for booking here...and the breakfast wasn't included. I've stayed at Holiday Inn Express hundreds of times for personal and work, and a buffet breakfast has always been included...but apparently not at the HIE downtown Vancouver. First and last time I'll ever be staying at this location.
