Good spot for “elevated” dining where the menu changes daily. We weren’t super impressed by the starters turnips, tuna tartare, but the main dishes were all great. Swordfish was great, steaks were great, and the pork pasta was OK. Fingerling potatoes were also a great side. Dessert was really nice too - ginger dish was the best.
The atmosphere, the service and the food were awesome. I like the fact that you can see the chefs cook your food while being at your table. I ordered the bread rolls as an appetizer and the hanger steak with crispy kale for my main. The bread was crispy outside and soft inside with a little honey butter. The steak was well seasoned and the kale was spectacular. The only bad thing I have to say is that the steak was a bit cold. I highly recommend and I hope I get the chance to go back and try the duck and another appetizer.
Hand of the woods lived up to its reputation as one of the best restaurants in Burlington. From them from the moment we entered, we were welcomed and guided through our meal by a superlative staff. Every dish on the “small plate” centered menu was beautifully plated with fresh ingredients. The tomatoes in theCherry Tomatoes with Sweet Corn Ricotta dish were some of the most flavorful I’ve ever tasted. The hanger steak was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. You cannot go wrong at this restaurant.
We stayed in Burlington VT on our road trip specifically so we could try Hen of the Wood. So happy that we did! From atmosphere to service to the food it was all top notch.nWe sat at the bar for drinks and dinner which is fun - lots of action to observe. Jo’s swordfish was to die for - it was seared to perfection with crunchy exterior and moist interior. I had steak after having lots of seafood on the coasts of Connecticut and Maine. The steak was delicious but even better was the smoked sweet potato purée that accompanied it. We finished with a cheese plate. Every bite of every dish was savoured.nService was attentive and professional. Ambience was warm and although it’s a big restaurant it felt cozy.nAt the end of the night we asked our server for recommendations for the next night. We went with the first on her list and were thrilled. Wrote a review for that, too.nSorry, the pictures don’t do the meal justice.
We celebrated a birthday at this location, and the food did not disappoint. There is definitely something for everyone, and you can accommodate a lot of different dietary restrictions. The cocktails and wine are also excellent. The overall ambiance is intimate and a bit moody. The open kitchen concept allows you to really feel like you’re immersed in the culinary experience, and the servers are knowledgeable and helpful. Be prepared to order quickly because when it’s a busy evening, the pacing and delivery of food felt a bit slow.
