Come Home to Hearthstone Hospitality
Hospitality is not only our job but it’s the way of life here in the Maritimes. We truly believe in treating all of our guests like family, whether you are travelling for business or pleasure. Hearthstone Hospitality operates 4 hotels in Nova Scotia: 2 in the Port Hawkesbury area at the entrance to Cape Breton Island, 1 in Sydney on the east coast of Cape Breton Island and 1 in the heart of Dartmouth. We have been in operation for over 10 years and our owner has over 40 years of hospitality experience. In fact, the combined experience of our management staff is over 100 years. Our staff understands what it takes to make you feel at home here in the beautiful environs of Atlantic Canada.

The Hearthstone Hospitality Name was Born
The name Hearthstone Hospitality was developed in 2002 as a means of bringing all of our separate entities together under one common identity. To us, the brand “hearthstone” represents unity, warmth and pride.

Gathering Place of the Family
According to Webster’s dictionary, the hearthstone represents the gathering place of the family wherein warmth and comfort were derived. Our primary business is the hospitality industry and we wish warmth and comfort for all our guests. Therefore, we felt the name was a good fit for or vision and goals. Our slogan is: Experience the Warmth of a Maritime Welcome!

I arrived on a redeye flight from Toronto and checked in at 1:30 am Monday June 23rd 2025. Despite my request for a upper floor room during booking, they gave me a room on 1st floor which is also pet friendly floor.nnI had to complete a presentation for the meeting midday same day, so went to be around 5am. Around 6am I was woken up by an extremely loud, aggressive barking of a dog, which was coming from the room straight across the corridor from my room. When peeked through door hole, the dog's leash was tied to the door handle and was barking loudly. I complained to the receptionist and she asked the dog to be taken back into the room and keep under control. It stopped barking for about an hour and I went back to sleep. It started barking again around 7am and I woke up to this whole inconsiderate, disrespectful acts of the dog owner and hotel's inability to control it. Tried to get some sleep but again woken up by the housekeeping maids knock on the door. I walked into the meeting with just under 2 hours of sleep!!nnThey offered a room on 3rd floor, which I thankfully accepted but this room also did not have a DO NOT DISTUB hanger for the door. I went and told the receptionist lady at the front desk about this, she said they will inform the housekeeping and agreed to give me late checkout until noon next day as I needed to catch up with sleep before my next business meeting on Tuesday.nnGuess what? This time the phone rang sharp at 11 am and a rude Indian accented voice said CHECKOUT TIME IS 11 AM!! I mentioned about the incident previous day, and he said he had no information about such agreement for late checkout!! So here I was, explaining to him all over again and just kept the phone.nnBoth rooms had fake wood floors, sticky, dusty and the pillows were hard and lumpy. They had decent free coffee and real milk at the front dest area for guests. No breakfast served.nnOn my way out, as I dropped the keys at front counter, noticed his name NEEL. I told it was mu first and last stay at this horrible hotel with one of the worse customer service!!!!nnIf I return to Dartmouth, my stay would never be at this place. The staff seemed to lack organization and coordination with fellow staff members. Quite unprofessional for a Mic Mac owned property!
Absolutely terrible service. My friend did not have ID so the “owner of this establishment” said he must sit down in the lobby. Even after saying he wants to just go back to our room, and its fine he does not want to go into the slots room. The owner said he must go sit down in the lobby. Then proceeded to argue with us instead of just letting us go to our room. I will never stay here again, and I wont suggest this place to anyone.
Really old and dirty hotel. It smells like cigarettes or weed when someone outside? is smoking it comes into the room. The staff don’t do a good job of cleaning. They came at odd hours to clean our room when we were there, not in the morning like most hotels. No breakfast. You get what you pay for I guess
Didn't realize the hotel is this old. Should've picked up the clue from it's name. So expect old things like, a really small elevator, old furniture, weak shower volume, etc. Given the price, it's all good. No complaints though.
Shockingly bad is the nicest thing I can say about the place. The rooms really do look decent at first glance but then the details get noticed. Nothing is clean, there is dog and other hairs all over, multiple stains on the furniture and beds. Even the curtains would only close 3/4 of the way and the privacy curtain was missing entirely.nnI wound up moving to a different hotel after being inside the rooms here. On the upside there was no signs of bed bugs.
