Peaceful campground with only 3 campsites. 2.6mi & 1.5hr uphill hike from the Tennessee Valley parking lot. This is a pretty decent hike for beginner backpackers. I would recommend campsite #1 & #2. O - flat tent site, picnic table, bear box, vault toilet porta potty, phone reception verizon X - water
Amazing views totally worth the hike up here Very peaceful place
Very enjoyable campsite, extremely peaceful and amazing views. Relatively easy to get too, except the last 300 yards to campsite which is 25% grade when bikepacking with loaded bike. Great biking in the area. Highly recommend this campsite, so peaceful.
Really wonderful little campground. Incredible sweeping views of the bay and the city between some hills. Dress warmer than you might expect, it gets very windy and foggy. The walk in from Tennessee valley trailhead is uphill for 2 miles, but not much of a challenge. This would be a great outing for beginner backpackers. Amenities included nice flat tent sites, picnic tables, and a bear box at each site. Toilet is a porta potty.
A secluded campground with 3 pitches and great views. It's a bit of a hike to get to compared with the other campgrounds, but it's worth it. There are also bear safe boxes for your food and a few picnic tables. Free to camp here, you just have to reserve in advance!
Great spot! And a mild 2.5 miles hike that makes it count as backpacking
Hawk Campground is located just on the other side of the hill from Sausalito --but it feels like a world away. We took the trail from the visitors center. Winding up through the beautiful hills was a bit of work, but worth it. The views are breathtaking and while it was hot climbing up, the proximity to the ocean meant it cooled down nicely once night time set in. There are just a handful of sites, all clustered relatively close to one another a couple of them touch. There are planks defining the area to pitch a tent, but I found them a little restrictive in size. That said there is ample space for a couple of tents on at least a couple of the sites. Note that there are no amenities at the site itself, except a nearby portable toilet. You'll have to bring all of your own water and supplies.
Beautiful campsite. The hike up has great views of the Golden Gate and the surrounding hills. We took a little hike up the hill north of campsite to watch the sunset and the city across the water. Absolutely fantastic.
I really like this place because of how close it is yet you feel so far away when you get there
