Story

Family owned for three generations Grand Hotel has been welcoming guests to Mackinac Island in Northern Michigan since 1887. Located on a bluff overlooking the Straits of Mackinac there is no better way to spend your day then in a rocking chair on the world's longest porch. Bikes and horse drawn carriages are the favored modes of transportation. Grand Hotel has recently been named as Travel + Leisure’s Best Hotel in Michigan, and a Top 500 World’s Best Hotel. Grand Hotel offers outstanding accommodations and activities for the entire family. Children 11 and under are complimentary including children's programs for children 5 and over from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Come get away from it all at America's Summer Place.

I've only been to this hotel only once and I have to say, I want to go back. Sure, it's expensive for staying and dining but, it's so worth it. Their food is so luxurious, rich in flavor, and is served by amazing waiters/servers. Their rooms however, look like any ordinary hotel rooms and aren't exactly special. The rooms are clean sure, but I expect them to be special due to the price staying. The outside of the Grand Hotel has a swimming pool, a huge backyard for people to play any sport, and a view that is just impressive. It's been six years since I last visited so they could have changed the layout. It even has a bar upstairs for the adults. This hotel really just makes Mackinac Island better.

We stayed here last year for our anniversary in July and had an incredibly wonderful time. The food was delicious every night. Coming back this year to celebrate our 30th anniversary. If you truly want to step back to a gracious time where dressing up for dinner was normal, this is the place to be. The hole experience is unbelievable fabulous. The staff is truly amazing. This place was immaculate. We stayed here in August, on an off-night so we got a great deal on the room. It overlooked the grounds, and had a stunning view of the Mighty Mac bridge. It's like a quaint step-back in time and I love it. At dinner time gentlemen need to wear jackets and tie, and ladies recommended formal wear as well. The room keys are still actual metal keys which was a nice touch as well. And in the afternoon catching the breeze in a rocking chair on the huge porch was really nice. Oh! And you must go to the ice cream shop and get the nutella milk shake...YUM!

Based on one overnight, but what an overnight. Spectacular property, literally breathtaking exterior. Bright, vivid interior made the room very appealing, but of course the real visual attraction was the view of the straits and Big Mac. Everything about the room was first rate, but THE reason to come here is the dining. If you're on a diet, forget it for however long you stay here, because every meal is an event. Also great fun just to sit in the lounge, listen to the piano music, and people-watch. And all of this occurs on beautiful, historic Mackinac Island. If I could award 10 stars, I would. P.S. I recommend taking a ferry from St. Ignace, which is far more quaint and charming than the tourist trap of Mackinaw City.

Visited the grand hotel with my family. Although it was a nice stop, there were other places on the island we felt more welcome. The history here is beautiful for sure, but the atmosphere was not warm and welcoming.
