The Chippewa Hotel Waterfront was built on its present site in 1902 to serve the growing number of overnight guests on Mackinac Island. The hotel presently has 31 guest rooms and 26 luxury suites, the famous Pink Pony Bar & Grill and a waterfront patio bar and grill.

Over the years the hotel has been renovated as need has arisen. During the winter of 1995, the Chippewa Hotel saw its largest renovation to date. The Hotel renovation, while maintaining the Victorian elegance that is unique to Mackinac Island, now permits us to offer modern day amenities to our guests. Every guest room overlooking Main Street was redecorated and equipped with televisions and telephones. All of the guest rooms overlooking the harbor were converted into luxury suites which include a large bedroom, spacious bathroom trimmed in marble, living area with balcony overlooking the water, two televisions, three telephones, wet bar with refrigerator and microwaves and air conditioning.

Easily my favorite hotel, anywhere in the world. I got married on the patio last year, and came back for one night on our anniversary. Getting married here? So awesome. We wanted casual for ~80 people and it was absolutely perfect. But beware: if you book September 18th you need to invite my wife and I; we have anniversary plans at the Chippewa indefinitely. And as far as our anniversary? I almost cried when we showed up. The Chippewa moved us from a street view queen to a suite with a view of the harbor and the fort. The staff treated us like we got married on the grounds yesterday, not last year. I've been in the high-end hospitality business for he last 15 years, and I aspire to mimic the Chippewa. There's a level of genuine hospitality that you can buy with 1000€ in Paris. Thank you to the staff.

Food was very mediocre. Service was fine. The waterfront dining was the only appeal.

In February 2017 we booked a SUITE at the Chippewa on the first day we found out when the GOP Convention was going to be at Mackinaw Island. We have always stayed at the Chippewa, except for last time, when we did not book early and we had to stay at another hotel. We were very disappointed when we had found out the Suite that we booked ended up just being a deluxe room. We immediately contacted the front desk and we received no relief. We were all very disappointed with the lack of help we received. We ended up with half of the room that we had initially booked in February. Then to add additional disappointment we had people that were sitting on the small walk way in front of the rooms drinking, eating and partying. They even had blocked our door to get in and out of our room with two chairs they were sitting in. We called the desk and we were told there was nothing they could do. This just added to the disappointment on how management and staff handles situations. It felt like, if I ignore the situation it will just go away. Is this place too busy to take situations like this seriously?

The Chippewa Hotel was an overall great experience. Everything you wanted to do is right there with multiple bars on the main level and located on Main Street close to everything else as well. The room was very comfortable and clean. The breakfast is amazing! The staff and porters were extremely friendly and helpful in getting luggage to and from the ferry socks. I would highly recommend staying at the Chippewa!
