It’s fairly easy to forget this beach adjoins not the ocean, but a massive lake. Since you can’t see the other side, it feels more like the ocean. The sandy beach here, largely an extension of the great dunes nearby, offers a great place for soaking up the sun and some water from the lake. Beware large swarms of sand flies that seem to congregate near the parking lot. Nearby is also a historic boat docked on land. It’s also a good beach with dogs during off peak times.

I've tried to make it here as often as possible since my wife introduced me to this area in 1998. Good Harbor Bay Beach is a nice and usually peaceful. If there happens to be a warm sunny day that brings out family & friends to the beach, no need to worry about overcrowding. The beach is very long, giving plenty room for a little privacy. If you enjoy strolling along the water's edge in search of petoskey stones or just for exercise, Good Harbor Bay Beach is a good place to do so. Before visiting the beach this past week it had been 7 years since my last visit. I did notice something different about the beach; the beach appears to have narrowed. Either the native grass is growing relatively quickly and taking over some of the beach(which helps prevent beach erosion), or Lake Michigan water levels has increased. If I were to guess it would be the latter. However, either one is good. That all being said, Good Harbor Bay Beach is beautiful and the sunsets are spectacular as it sets between the distant Manitou Islands!

My favorite Lake Michigan Beach, you have views of North and South Manitou Islands, as well as the sand bluffs of Sleeping Bear Dunes. You need a National Park Pass

My Husband's Family's favorite beach for a few generations and now my favorite beach too. The beach is eroding noticeably a lot more every year, very sad to see it disappearing.

Nice beach for picnics, walks or swimming. It can get busy in the summer.
