Woods, fields and awesome views. Clay Cliffs is an easy hike, with about an 1 1/2 mile loop.
Clay cliffs is perfect for a quick short hike about 2 miles total with an awesome view at the top of the overlook. I suggest hiking both inner and overlook loop. The best time to go is in the evening if you want to catch the sun setting over the lake. The trail is well shaded with small section of the Overlook loop that opens to grassland for about a 1/4 of mile. There is plenty of parking and signs to guide as you explore each loop!
Great place to hike, not terribly challenging. Wooded trails, I bet the loop is between 2-3 miles to hike and there is a very cool lookout at the top of a bluff which is just over a mile from the trailhead... maybe 1.2 miles? I’d highly recommend visiting - it’s just 1-2 miles past Leland to the east of town on M-22. The trailhead and trails were accessible in the winter although there wasn’t an insane amount of snow, only 6-8 inches but not much of it was fresh so the trail was clearly defined by footprints which might not always be the case, FYI the trail is not well posted except for a few intersections.
Beautiful forest walk with a surprising bit of elevation gain well, for Michigan anyway on the way to the overlook. The loop is fairly short but the views are fantastic! Dog-friendliness: Leashed dog-friendly place to walk
We did the short, direct hike from the parking lot to the Manitou Overlook with our almost-4-year-old. She couldn't hike the whole way but it wasn't too bad for her to ride our shoulders for a little bit. The overlook is beautiful!!
The mostly hard packed sand trails winds its way up the Dune in the Cedar Forest with small creeks meandering through to the overlook of Pyramid Point, and both Manitou Islands. The hike back down is a blast...not too steep and quick.
Beautiful, hidden, and reasonable hike. We even heard a Barred owl in the woods as we were walking back. It's such a peaceful location and breathtaking view.
This place is easy to overlook if you’re from out of town. Quick, moderate hike- only took about 12 minutes, provided views overlooking Lake Michigan that *did not* disappoint!
Love this hiking trail. Takes about 20-25 minutes to hike the loop. Easy walking trail. Wooded and cool. The lookout point is breath taking!
