Gilt Restaurant

The venue was nice. The food was tasty enough but a little more pricey than I am accustomed to paying (although to be honest, I don't visit restaurants in the city very often.) Presentation was nice. Service was just adequate... Not worth the default 20% that is suggested for gratuity.

I want to love Gilt but it sometimes misses the mark. Cocktails have consistently been delicious. Love the huge patio. Servers have always been decent. Food can be amazing but last time I had the fried cheese curds, the batter was raw. Mentioned it to the server but didn't get any more. Kind of a bummer. Another quibble is that the serving sizes aren't consistent: some plates have enough to be shared but others are way too small (salad). The prices don't necessarily reflect the variability. Sometimes there's slow service, too.

Excellent vegetarian options. Tofu cubes have fish sauce but is clearly marked if one wants to avoid it.

$10 burger Friday with bacon and egg. Best value in the city for a Friday lunch. The food here is good any day of the week though. Highly recommended, though I personally steer clear of these smoked salmon salad. Sounds food but always misses the mark.
