I recently visited Kinkaku Izakaya and had a mixed experience. The food is super delicious, but some dishes are quite small, including the skewers. Since it’s an all you can eat restaurant and it was my first time there, they recommended starting with one or two plates and a small number of items to try. Drinks aren’t included in the offer, so you have to pay extra for those. Also, you can’t stay longer than two hours, as they’ll ask you to leave.nBe aware that you have to finish all the food you order, or you’ll be charged extra for any leftovers. There are two dining periods, with dinner hours being more expensive than lunch hours. While the idea of all you can eat is appealing, I didn’t feel like I saved money. They also put a lot of sugar in the food, which isn’t typical for some dishes I usually enjoy without sweet sauce. The pineapple juice I ordered was way too sweet to finish. Despite these issues, the ambiance is nice and clean, the service is fast, and the sushi is delicious. If you’re coming for the food, you’ll enjoy it, but be aware of the small portions, extra costs, and the need to finish everything you order.
Some of the best sushi I’ve had in years. The meat is very high quality .. the tempura shrimp is out of this world. The cream brule is really good.nnThe ambience is lovely very cute and near. The food is of very high quality and tastes amazing. And the staff are very helpful and friendly.nnBeen there a couple times with friends and will certainly be back again.
I've been going to Kinkaku Izakaya for a couple of years now, mostly for their all-you-can-eat sushi lunches, and they’ve never disappointed. The sushi always tastes fresh, and the other dishes are fantastic as well. My only minor complaint is that the smaller tables for two along the back wall feel a bit cramped, especially when you're enjoying an all-you-can-eat meal. Other than that, this place is amazing and absolutely worth a visit!
Now I see why Kinkaku’s reviews are dropping.nnKinkaku engages in misleading advertising. They say the salmon teriyaki is limited to five pieces per person, giving the impression that the portions are small, like the rest of the items. The “pieces” are actually large, dry, and inedible steaks. The waitress also failed to mention that the portions were full-sized rather than small. Then, one of the workers confirmed that “it’s advertising”.nnThe red snapper, BC tuna and seaweed salad were all watery as if freshly defrosted there was water at the bottom of the plates.nnOn top of that, when I ordered a shot of whiskey, she insisted she couldn’t bring it without first informing me of the price. It took her 15 minutes to bring the drink, and she never actually told me the price of the whiskey as she was apparently obligated to.nnKinkaku used to be the best Japanese restaurant in all of KW- I hope they improve and claim back this title. Otherwise, not worth visiting again.
such a great acye in kw! dropped by on a sat evening and had to wait about an hour on the wait list which was totally fine and worth it. the interior was perfect for friends and dates with the service/food being quick despite having paper orders. really good range of japanese & korean tapas and would totally come back again!
