Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community by: reducing food waste through the rescue and distribution of perishable and non-perishable food; coordinating with other hunger relief providers; educating the public about hunger; and developing new food resources.

Although the amazing helpful intentions are there I find it very sad that you are handing out stale/spoils foods out to those in need especially the elderly. Food gathers donates to many places including some senior living places and I think they need to check more into what they are fixing them because I have a mother staying at one on maple street in Ann Arbor, she’s not seeing too well and doesn’t always notice expire dates so she has had bad chicken and other foods on multiple occasions as well as the other elerly folks there, same issue. The review is based on the experience there alone. Formerly called sequoia place it’s now Sameritas. Thanks for the good intentions but this could make someone seriously ill or worse especially if more bad chicken is given. My mom made hers and luckily I happened by to smell that and the expire date was more than a month past. Please if you are going to help do so humanly. Just because they live on fixed incomes that doesn’t mean they should be handed rotten food sorry.

I've been a volunteer with Food Gatherers for over 25 years. A great place to volunteer if you want a simple, once in a while gig or regular volunteer work. The mission of feeding people while reducing food waste is achieved efficiently, effectively and with a terrific balance of customer and volunteer service.

Pleasant experience donating a bin of food- the employee weighed it and got us a receipt in less than a minute. We were fascinated by the weird food shelf and admired the carrot theme. Would recommend such an ethical, happy place.
