Essence of Coffee

This is one of our favorite spots in town and it probably has some of the best coffee in Rapid. Service is hit or miss at times. I usually have the apple sausage hash but without the apples I am allergic and usually isn't a problem to have them removed, but when it's a busy morning, we will be told that it's all pre-mixed, which is a bummer. I understand that there are people who will lie about allergies just because they don't like a food, but I was really upset to get a fruit cup filled with apple chunks as a side for the wrap I got after sharing the allergy. Like I said, it doesn't happen often, but sometimes the service is hit or miss. Food and drink are good, I just wish it was consistent

This is my boyfriend's favorite coffee place in town. The service is pretty good and they are always busy which can make seating hard to come by. There is a big table in the front that should be replaced with a smaller table to allow room for customers who are standing in line to order and who are waiting for their drinks. It's awkward sitting at that table when people surround it while they wait to be served or place an order. They have a variety of food options and offer gluten free bread. This visit my boyfriend and I split the avocado toast and the biscuits and gravy. The food is good and the service is quick. They used to serve matcha and no longer do, which is a disappointment as my favorite drink from there was their lavender matcha. I do like that if you order food, they give you a number to set on your table and bring the food out to you. I've only eaten breakfast there, but they do serve burgers and salads for lunch and afternoon. In addition to the coffee, they also have a variety of loose leaf teas and some bottled drinks as well. The roasters are Australian and they do seem to try to provide items that match the season.

As an Aussie having spent 4 weeks in Rapid this place was awesome to have. No hate on American coffee but if you're like me and miss our coffee back home then you won't be disappointed. I had the big Aussie burger and while they forgot the bacon, that thing was truly amazing Just wish I'd discovered it earlier in my trip, not the day before leaving. Highly recommend this place!

Really good coffee and solid brunch/breakfast food. Great place to get some work done with fast wifi and a good atmosphere. Also, excellent selection of hot sauces with this gem:

Loved their coffee! Their owners are an Australian couple and have thought about the whole experience. They were super friendly and lovely to talk to them!!! The only downside is the service, it is not good, the girls at the counter had quite a bad attitude. Only one of them was very nice ,the other two were somewhat rude, not expected at a coffee shop where you usually find people with a great vibe. Recommend this place, they have really good coffee.

I gave 2 stars because staff is friendly. But breakfast for 2 cost $40 and they give you old avocados that are mushy and ruin the bagel. Frustrating when you spen so much and get very poor quality.

My partner and I frequent this little shop as it is easily the best espresso in town – the single origins are especially unique and delicious! They offer a variety of cooked and grilled breakfast and lunch items, which is unique among the other higher-end shops in town. The baristas are usually very sweet and greet you with a smile, aside from the one with long blonde hair who comes off as cold and unfriendly in every encounter. Aside from that, I enjoy coming here for a cup and a quick bite.

Traveling through Rapid City and found this gem of a breakfast/coffee spot. The service was excellent and the coffee was the best Latte we have had! Vegan options made this a win win!!

Coffe is great as usual. So excited for the new Aussie menu. Just tried the beef Aussie pie. So good! Flaky puff pastry is the best. Filling is warming and delicious. Portion size is perfect! Next yp will be the sausage rolls! Can't wait!
