Have taken a few courses & workshops here, some excellent, some just okay. Some very good artist talks, which are recorded if you can't make it to the actual event. Interesting art shows featuring work by local artists and DVSA students. My favorite is the annual show that matches painters with flower arrangers.
A great place to take intro pottery courses. This is a great studio to learn pottery if you're starting off knowing nothing. You just have to provide your own basic tools, they provide the rest. Amazing teachers and staff!nFor intro potters: you'll need to be patient with yourself because it's much harder than it looks, but you can make and take home quite a few pieces as many as you have time for. Photos are of pieces I've made :nnThe annual Art Auction was also really fun to participate in!
My daughter has learned so much from her amazing art teacher, Miles. She's been taking his introductory class for a couple of years now and comes home with amazing pieces of work. Miles has recommended her for his level 2 class where she can progress even more in her love for painting. Can't wait to see what she learns in that class! Thank you Miles for being a great teacher! Special shoutout to Jessica at the front desk who is always smiling and kind, and for water-colour teacher, Lena, who has become a dear friend to me. DVSA is the place to be!
My kids and I have all enjoyed classes here. Your experience can depend a lot on the instructor you get but in general it's a really fun place. The kids loved the cartooning class and I have enjoyed both drawing and painting classes. Many of the students seem to be quite accomplished artists and its as much fun to watch the other students as it is to work with the instructors. I would be inclined to take more classes if they provided a little more actual instruction in technique but never-the-less I would definitely recommend you try a class as it's most enjoyable. For myself, I am now a student of studio art and art history at the University of Guelph. Learning a great deal more effectively.
Our 7 year old loved art camp there!
