Great spot to stay in Uptown SJ. The room was modern, and it looks like it was renovated at some point in the last 5 years or so. Bathrooms still have original shower/tub combo and sink.nnOverall, the stay was good. However, the general layout and parking is not instinctive like most hotels. After the first time, you completely get it, but clearer maps and instructions would save your guests' initial stress during check-in. You don't want it to be a pain point for guests.nnAlso, I found the lobby to be over scented, almost overwhelming.nnThe staff was very nice. I noticed their struggles with French speaking guests.nnBig plus, pool and hot tub are open until 12am! Good for finding quiet time to unwind.
Staff was amazing from the beginning. Cassie and Chrissie ran the valet and parking in front of the hotel. This place has very tight spots with lots of cement poles and curbs and traffic. They kept it running smoothly and safely all the while helping people with luggage and always smiling. Terri at check in was very efficient and friendly and got us checked in to our room quickly. Nancy at the Mix Resto restaurant was one of the best servers we’ve ever had. The breakfast menu that’s included with our room was pretty nice and we ended up in Nancy’s section a lot. She always had a smile and helped us to navigate what was included with our room voucher and how to get the most bang for our buck and how to order healthy without it costing more. She always asked if we wanted any coffee, tea, or water to go. We looked forward to seeing her every morning. We were here 6 nights and she was such a joy. Our only complaint about this hotel is the maintenance. We know it’s an older place but the circuit breaker for our AC would pop every day and they always had to send someone to flip the breaker before we could get AC again. Also, bathroom sink drained super slow, he said it was a bad stopper but did nothing. We ended up sticking a small bar of soap under the stopper to hold it up so the water could drain. We also told him the shower/tub took forever to drain. He said he took some gunk out of the drain and it should drain. Next day, it was the same. Still took forever to drain. By the time I was done showering, the tub was half full. We gave up asking for a real fix figuring he didn’t want to fix anything. Other than maintenance, it was a great stay with a wonderful staff.
I enjoyed my stay here for the most part!nnStarting at the beginning, parking was a bit annoying. The parking garage is right next door, but getting from the parking garage to the hotel via the connected elevator, path and mall is a bit awkward. It would be incredibly beneficial to have proper signage in the parking garage pointing guests in the right direction. If there was signing, I didn't see it.nnCheck-in was a little awkward as there was an issue taking place with another patron and the lady serving me seemed incredibly distracted by that and was paying attention to it vs checking me in, but it was fine and didn't take too long. Parking was validated during the check-in process, but note that it costs $18 PER NIGHT to park in the parking garage. To me that is a bit excessive.nnThe room is really nice and for being right downtown, it's incredibly quiet. The bed was very comfortable, but I personally found the pillows way too thick. it would be nice to have some variety of thick and thin pillows. If you require a thinner pillow, I'd recommend bringing your own here. In terms of the biggest con of the room, it was the bathroom. The shower seemed very dated.nnMy room technically 1st floor of the hotel, but really roughly the 5th floor of the building had an excellent view of the buildings and streets below.nnCheck-out was extremely easy and quick!nnI'm unsure if I would return just based on the parking not being included, as well as the awkward journey from the parking garage to the hotel. In the future I would likely choose to NOT to stay downtown.
I stayed here for one night with my husband and dog. We were drawn to the hotel due to the location and it being pet friendly. We were surprised to be hit with a $35 pet fee after booking. I think this should have been clear upon reserving the room as it was advertised pet friendly. In addition, I would have thought parking would have been free given we were guests at the hotel but that was an additional $18. The hotel definitely needs an update for the price. However, staff were very friendly and you can’t argue with the convenient location.
Convenient location, not at the center of the party but super close to it if you want. The hotel staff are all friendly and helpful. Accommodated every request we had. We felt very welcome. Highly recommend!
