My daughter is enrolled in beginner swimming lessons, the cost was around $90 for 10, 30 minute lessons. It would be nice if the lessons were even 15 minutes longer, because 30 minutes goes by really fast. I was surprised when my daughter wanted to go into one of the other kid pools before her lessons started and was told she couldn’t because she was only there for lessons. I think the cost of the lessons should include being able to use the other pool areas. Parking can be hard to find closer to the entrance, so keep that in mind. Every time I’ve gone here I’ve had to park pretty far away. Which isn’t a big issue for me, but could be for others. The pool change rooms are free, there is a pin pad you set up using your own PIN number. It’s nice not having to worry about bringing a lock. I still wouldn’t leave anything important in the locker though. I’m not sure if I would register my daughter in swimming lessons after she’s done her beginner ones. I may look elsewhere.
Been going here for about a year, love it! The child minding is so helpful and the staff there are great, I wouldn't be able to workout without them. I do wish they were open all day though instead of having a break from 12 to 4. The gym is nice and big with a large selection of machines. It's usually fairly quiet when I go in the mornings, I can't speak for afternoons or evenings. The pool is great for my 1 year old, there's lots for her to do. I wish the food/restaurant was better and open more, I've only seen it open once. This is a total missed opportunity. I used to workout at the YMCA downtown Vancouver and they had a shake bar in the lobby similar to booster juice where you could buy protein shakes, snacks like protein balls, and pre packaged meals with the macros listed on the box. The one time I saw this restaurant open I went in, none of the food was healthy so I skipped that despite my stomach growling, and I paid $5 for a bottled protein drink I would get at 7 11 for $3. I hope they do something better with that place
World class sports facility, great events happens all the time on top this place is home to Edmonton Elks the Football team. Swimming pool is great every one works hard to ensure this place is running smooth it also held an annual Muslim prayers called EID, inner city also have winter shelter for homeless people. Over all its to much to list of good things about this facility, LOVE THIS PLACE.
Great place for rec swimming but do NOT recommend for swimming lessons. Pool is still open to public with only small sections closed off for swimming lessons, family changing room closed so have to send my 7 yr old in the men's changing room alone. Old enough to be too old to come into the women's but still too young to be on his own in the men's changing room. Would come for family swim but won't be back from swimming lessons :
This is my favorite facility to visit for a recreation center. It's always clean and it's also always fairly quiet so you don't feel rushed or like you're crammed in with too many people. The staff here are also always easy to deal with even when I am renewing my membership which is a little bit of a unique situation.
One of my favorite edmonton gyms but a few things that always come up. Not enough parking to support the building. Youll either spend 30 minutes circling the parking lot waiting for someone to leave, or parking in overflow parking by the soccer field which is a unpleasant walk in the cold or dark. The area is seedy, so theres frequently sketchy people about outside. I found a dirty needle in the washroom once. Apart from that its truly an impressive building
Only rational/logical thinkers should be in a position to make/enforce rules. Heres an example. I swipe in with my membership card, proof that ive paid. Im offered a paper wristband to which i reply "i have a silicone one, thx." Her-"Can i see it?" "Its in my bag, why?" Her-"To make sure you didnt sneak in" "You just saw me swipe in?!?!" Her- "Yes but the lifeguard doesnt know that" Now this is where logic and reason kick in, effortlessly for some of us Her and i both know i didnt sneak in, so why would i lie about having a wrist band? So if im confronted for not wearing it o can get kicked out? No matter how much i explore any combinations of this, in no way do i ever benefit from lying and in no way does a CITY FACILITY lose by my lying. I have a paid membership. End of story. Its not like I didnt just swipe in and Im claiming to have a wristband in my bag. Thats the only scenario her insistence makes sense. This is where emotional intelligence comes in. If this staff that hassles and argued with had a drop of it, she would see there is something really bothering this person, that they are struggling emotionally and lifting weights helps and that maybe she doesnt need to hassle this person when she KNOWS theyve paid. Instead, she was stubborndogged determination not to change one's attitude or position on something, especially in spite of GOOD arguments or reasons to do so. and made my already terrible day a little bit worse. So thank you for enforcing a rule that actually makes zero sense. Its comforting to know a policy maker was paid 20-30$ for that useless nugget.
The Commonwealth Rec Center has a lot to offer in terms of amenities and variety. Along with a fitness center, they also have a pool, gymnasium and field house. If you like to do a variety of activities with your work out, this could be your kind of gym! One of my favorite things about this gym was the amount of light from the big windows. I find gyms with few or no windows can be daunting to go to, but Commonwealth gives you energy from the natural light. I also enjoy how clean Commonwealth is in comparison to other box gyms. One thing I dislike about this gym is how everything is in separate rooms. One room has mostly cardio equipment, the next has mostly machines and the last has weights. Personally, I prefer an open concept gym, but maybe that's just me!
Got a chance to visit for the first time this Rec center to play basket ball earlier today. The facility is well maintained and has a lot of options for indoor sports etc. The gym as well has most the equipment you can except for any gym to have.
I was not able to experience all they had to offer but over all I was happy with the way the staff remained professional while at there venue.
