The YMCA of Northern Alberta is a registered charity that promotes strong kids, healthy families and thriving communities.

Story

Don and Marion Wheaton believed, from their early years in Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan, that “no man is an island” and that we all need to help our neighbours and improve the lives of our fellow citizens as we are able.
As a young adult, Don quietly committed to spend at least an hour each day in some kind of volunteer work for the benefit of his community. It is a commitment he honoured throughout his life.
Don and Marion have been blessed with eight children, 34 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Family and service to the community are values that continue in succeeding generations.
Special thanks to the Don Wheaton Family for dedicating this YMCA to our Edmonton community on October 24, 2007.

I actually like this gym. Been going for almost a year now. Equipment is good, got bumpers for powerlifting which is the main thing. Only thing I don’t like about the gym is they don’t seem to attract many young adults. I go in mornings so it’s always old people around, as a 20 yr old female it would be nice to workout around people my age sometimes.
Really nice facility. Our family comes here for True Blue swimming lessons. The facilities are clean and appear to be well cared for. Staff are friendly and helpful. The pool is perfect for children’s swimming lessons.
I wanted to drop in but one staff who works at thr reception suggested about vistor membership. It can be used three times visiting if you visit the first time. I used the gym as well due to her kindness. Thank you
Very nice place to workout. I come usually in the am and it's a wonderful crowd. Alex, a personal trainer there, is super nice and caring. She loves greeting everyone by name.
I love this gym. Great pool and other amenities. Awesome trainers and staff!!
I’ve been a member of the mens’ plus for 25+ years and the accessibility has been good in those years. Now the hours are restricted and they are closed on Sundays! Why? I’m still paying the same membership fee but now get less service. Does the Y plan on extending hours and opening on Sunday again?
I cancelled my account 2 years ago, and they just started charging me again for membership? I didn't put the account on hold, I called and cancelled my account. That did not happen apparently, and they would not offer a refund at first. I called back, and they issued 1/2 of the amount. This is acceptable to me. Online Tool/App: I went to cancel/change my online account and the site doesn't allow you to do this! It's completely non-functional when it comes to cancelling or changing membership status. Very shady site functionality. Nice facility downtown Edmonton, but will likely not return. If so, I won't use the automatic withdrawal process.
Been going here for over 15 years and seen this place through all the changes. Pre-covid staff are definitely missed. Some of the new staff aren't as well customer service trained as the old staff but the equipment is maintained, they keep it clean and hopefully things go back to how it was because this is the best YMCA of them all!
Nice clean place. Good equipment. Locker rooms are kept clean and tidy. For the most part it's a great Y. One problem is one of the staff at the front may need some customer service refreshment courses. Not all, but one in particular. Otherwise, all other staff are really nice and try to listen instead of barking policies left and right.
Great gym. Perfect for me since I work downtown. Very clean and modern facility. Men's plus is well-equipped with really nice steam room. Friendly and helpful staff and reasonable parking rates. If only they had a salt-water pool it would be perfect.
