Happy to find this place for afternoon tea. This was a nice small cake shop and cafe on Main Street Markham right next to historic Downtown Markham Village. They have some very unique and nice looking mini cakes. The cakes were awesome and delicious. We enjoyed the Exotic Coconut mini cake and cappuccino most. The price of the cakes were about the same as other nice cake shops. The quality was good and you will be surprised to find something different than other shops. Will visit again if we happen to be in the area.
ChoKwokLat is a little pastry store recommended by lots of people. I am happy that I have a chance to try it today. I ordered 3 different types of dessert pastries. One is matcha cream, one is Montblanc, one is cream brulee. Out of the 3, cream brulee is the best and actually I highly recommend. I like the matcha cream as well, but just not much as the cream brulee. Montblanc unfortunately is a bit disappointed. I expect more chestnut in the middle, but end up with the strawberry filling. Maybe some people will like it, but not for me for sure.
The cake looked nice but when you try to eat it with a fork, the ‘glaze’ on the top is like ‘chicken skin’ just would not break and ended up making the whole experience messy and unrefined. The cream was too watery underneath as well, so the eventually I had to just peel the whole gelatin-y skin off. The remaining cream texture was not delicious, flavour just OK. The lady behind the counter did not explain the flavours or say Hello, just stood and stared, where-ever you moved, she moved…
Tried the exotic coconut, unexpectedly nice. At first, I regretted that I was not choosing a choco cake. But this cake is fresh and just like eating ice cream cake. Price is comparable to a branded patisserie in HK, but I personally feel worth it with the high quality. Also bought two bottles of peach jam for friends from HK, I haven’t tried, but they looked good.
Butter croissant and the almond chocolate croissant were both very fresh and delicious. They had a nice selection of unique and beautiful pastries, will definitely come back to give them a try!
Never disappointed when I stop at Cho-Kwok-Lat . We’ve got birthday cakes, pastry, chocolate and novelty cakes there over the years, it’s all fresh and delicious. The employees are friendly and helpful and the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommended for everyone!
I received a box of goodies from a friend and they were delicious! Beautiful pieces of pastries and desserts that are quality ingredients as well. Favourites: - Rocher - Milk chocolate praline - Exotic - Coconut mango passion fruit Other delicious pastries: - 70% chocolate bar - Paris-Brest - Wild strawberry - Creme brûlée cruffin - Fig tart You really taste the love put into each of these. Looking forward to try more!

Good pastries overall. Of the items tried, the crème brûlée cruffin & 70% chocolate bar were scrumptious, and stood out as items that I’ll be returning for. Paris-Brest & Exotic Coconut treats were beautifully presented but the flavours did not excite. Croissants were alright, similar to those you’d expect from many patisseries in GTA.
Visited on a Sunday afternoon. Coffee was ok. The mushroom Danish was quite tasty. Sausage Danish is a bit dry and the pastry wasn't as fresh as I thought or as suggested by my friend.
