Truly the best sushi experience in Victoria. Not only did the sushi taste amazing, the presentation was great too. The staff and owners made my visit very rememberable, if you are looking for a family friendly small business to support, this is the place to go. I wouldn't recommend a better sushi place in Victoria!
New owners? A new family? First of all, I want to preference that this is a family run restaurant of new comers. I admire their spirit and if you don't mind food that is not authentic please support them. Looking at the photos from other patrons I'm not sure I was in the same restaurant. Despite what the menu said. They seemed more focused on a take out business. After being seated I waited maybe ten or so minutes before my order was taken... then thirty minutes for my chirashi to arrive... which is just rice and sashimi on top. Okay now about the food. It wasn't authentic Japanese. The rice suffered from the Goldie-lox effect. Parts had too much vinegar or not enough or was just right. My guess is the rice wasn't mixed enough while adding the vinegar. However the texture was good and consistent. Now the sashimi. The scallop was the star. It was delicious and I wanted more. Often scallops don't taste as fresh. The rest of the sashimi was fine, it was cut right. However, I found the tomago off. It tasted like a Chinese egg tart. I love Chinese egg tarts but tomago is far from that. This is a sign that the egg was cooked too fast and dashi was not used. Oh also the wasbi was very watery. I've never seen this before and do not know what to contribute that from.
The ramen's soup is tasteless and not hot. Noodles texture are good except the meats and egg. The meats and egg are cold too. This is my first time having ramen which is not up to the ramen standard. Their Sushi is okay, but not great.
I highly recommend the Tuna and Salmon Oshi Sushi. If you are looking for a tuna and salmon mix, this roll is the perfect match. They use a special house sauce that upon the first bite, it just melts in your mouth. I've never tasted anything like this before. It truly is the perfect match. The owners are so lovely and friendly. This will be my forever go to sushi spot. #supportlocalbusiness
Great taste sushi and fresh We ord er 12 rolls on an busy Friday night for employee party. When we picked up the order, the owner was very friendly and accommodating me for some last minute additional orders . Absolutely well enjoyed by all coworkers. Highly recommend
The owners are nice to converse with and are homely. The portions are generous. The wait isn't too long compared to some other Japanese restaurants in the city but I do understand whenever they're slower than their norm, it's because they got a sea of home deliveries they're on the clock for. It's a shame they were forced to move to their current smaller location on Quadra, their new place doesn't have tatami rooms, one of the biggest charm to dine in. Blasted city; they're really trending hard to drive local restaurants away to take land and resell it to condo developers. I encourage folks to try this place to show support for local businesses enduring trying times during the pandemic.
Chiba Sushi is amazing. The service is great, the food is super fresh and hot. Their ramen in particular is excellent. The flavor of the broth paired with all the other extras they put in there really makes you feel like you're eating something out of a movie. Their rolls are always done perfectly, and they are happy to give you extra ginger with no charge. Anyone expecting fresh crab in a california roll for only 7-10$ is crazy. Crab prices are super high so you'd be paying probably around 16-25 for a crab roll if it was not imitation crab. I think their rolls taste great regardless. If you want an authentic and relaxing sushi restaurant experience, Chiba is the way!
Honestly there is just better sushi anywhere else it was super over priced for what I got and was the worst California roll and worst vegetable rolls I've ever had. Super disappointed happy I tried it cause now I never have to again.Food: 1/5
I lived in Japan for a long time and I’m very picky about Japanese food. Chiba Sushi is the most authentic Japanese food experience I had in Victoria so far. Tonkatsu-don, gyoza, kabocha croquette, sushi… everything it was right on point!! I was impressed with the quality and taste. 5 stars
Careless order!!! We order scallop rolls, and we got chicken roll. On top of that, the quality of the food has been dropping, too. Before, we used to order from here very often, we found after COVID, everything has changed. The taste of food, quality of food, price of food, and delicate quality are all changed, not impressive I could not believe that we got a wrong mixed rolls in our takeout. It is understandable that the price goes up, however, I have never expect this thing to happen. Very disappointed with This restaurant, and definitely not coming back
