Doesn't look like a Chinese restaurant when you walk in, but it definitely is, and also one of the better ones in the city! Really good food, lots of great spicy options as well.Food: 4/5
Definitely hit or miss based on personal experience and other reviews. Since it's hit most of the times I either took takeout or ate in for me, I'd give 3.5-4 stars. Portions are decent especially for price, and coupled with the copious amounts of fantuan deals for takeout makes this restaurant a good choice on a budget. Tastewise it's a mixed bag. Had an instance where my takeout was a bit too salty. Most dishes taste authentic but some might need to be a bit more spicy.
The food at this neighborhood Chinese restaurant is decently priced and dishes are prepared well. The atmosphere is interesting as it features a number of private little rooms. There are a number of Panda Kid-Like Statues scattered throughout the Restaurant. The service staff are casually dressed so it is a bit difficult to know who works there and who does not. There is a discount menu to order off of. You may have to know chinese in order to order off of it. The Peking Duck 3 course is cheaper than most places... I recommend you order that if your part is 4 or more... so you can also other dishes to try.
Best Hunan style Chinese restaurant is the city, my must go place on every Calgary trip. Sometime they are short on people but the wait is totally worth it. The spicy food there is my favourite.
It's a great restaurant with additional parking space located behind the establishment. An open concept layout that seems to accommodate wedding receptions and other events Audio & projector are already setup. The menu was very simple, but it definitely could use pictures, and a brief description of the food items to help new comers have a better understanding in choosing the appropriate dish. Each dish we ordered are definitely for sharing of at least 3-4 people. You get your value, but the taste may not be appropriate to all audience especially with dietary restrictions and to individuals who are not ready to try all new dishes. These are the dishes that I highly recommend: mápó dòufǔ, Yu Xiang Qie Zi Bao Braised Eggplant in claypot, dàndàn miàn, and huíguōròu. Please be aware that you will be experiencing a numbing spice that would linger in your mouth. Overall, I would go back again.
Yes the service could do with some improvement but once you get beyond that, the Hunan prepared food here has amazing flavour and a real ‘kick’. Finally some decent food in Calgary though not the cheapest for Chinese food. Love that the menu has photos on almost every dish, not loving that the bill was in Simplified Chinese but I expect that to change. Highly recommended restaurant to try. Excess parking in the back alley.
You have to rely on your luck to eat in Chef Tian Restaurant. Sometimes the chef is happy you get really good dishes, but sometimes the food is just okay. Not a very clean restaurant.decoration is not my style.
The food was not bad, it could have been a bit spicier. The chicken was a bit dry and needed some more flavor. Overall I think it's worth a try.
Very legitimate Human style food. Don't expect to find Americanized food like ginger beef or sweet and sour insert meat here. There are also non-spicy dishes, but if you want only non-spicy dishes don't bother coming here. The best dishes are the cumin spicy lamb and bamboo with preserved dried pork see photos. For those that gave this place one or two stars saying they didn't expect spicy food or offal. Clearly they didn't know what Hunan style food is and wanted something westernized.
This is definitely the place to go if you love spicy food. Food is amazing. My sister and I enjoy it a lot. Service is excellent. I will definitely visit again and recommend to others.
