Charlie's Caribbean Cuisine

I am writing this review in response to a review made by MIKE COOK. Because I also review food. I would advise “food critics” to first familiarize themselves with the cultural background of the food they intend to critique otherwise, it is irresponsible to speak publicly on how bad or good a dish is. For example, whenever I sample food that I don’t like I say, “I am not aware of how this is supposed to taste however; it’s not for me”……. Food is not necessarily bad simply because you don’t like it. I don’t like chicken pot pie that does not make it bad. I have been a customer of Charlie’s from the day they opened. Canada is multi cultural consequently, taste in cuisine vary. Some spices are an acquired taste, when tasting cuisine from other cultures. Even if you tasted a dish one way, another Caribbean island will present the dish differently, due to variances in spices that differ from island to island. I cannot speak for Mike Cook’s taste but as a person from the Caribbean with experience in Caribbean spices, Charlie’s is Caribbean soul food. It’s my comfort food. In our neighbourhood we respond when visitors to the area misrepresent our community because; representation matters. In closing, I am about to have my favourite wings from Charlie’s. I special ordered with “suicidal level spice” to suit my taste. Shout out to the cooks and the entire staff at Charlie’s Caribbean Restaurant. Micro aggressions is a real thing in communities where there are a lot of Black and people of colour.

Been enjoying meals here since 2014. Everything I've tried is just so delicious, especially their fried rice, and add the chicken on top... chef's kiss. Just on another level of aroma and taste. Let's not forget about the hot sauce that adds some tanginess and heat to the meals. Service is very good and they're also fast. Can't really compare any other Caribbean restaurants I've tried to this one. It's just different, authentic dishes.

that hot sauce will burn your face!!! This place is definitely a go to for some West Indian cuisine! The noodles is always cook fresh and the meat is always succulent! Ambiance and atmosphere leaves a bit to desire. So you’re best to just take yuh food to go! The quality though can’t be beat! And that pepper sauce! I dunno if there’s a match for it in the city! Oh so so very good!

The chicken fried rice is amazing and paired with the pepper shrimp makes an incredible meal. Their homemade hot sauce is absolute fire, but has such good flavour. Definitely a favorite!

I stopped by Charlie’s while out in Mississauga. I got the lunch special jerk chicken for about 9 bucks with tax. It came with rice and peas and a bit of coleslaw. I saw a couple of reviews that said the chicken was undercooked so obviously I looked out for that. What I got was at a minimum yesterday’s chicken and rice that resembled steel cut oats clumped together. It was a totally gross. The flavour is still making me gag, it tastes awful. I cannot believe they kept a straight face while they served up that food. I’ll bet they are laughing their behinds off back there wondering why anybody would buy their food, and let me tell you I never will again. This is a no go zone. #petfoodtakeout.

I had fried plantains & the Jamaican escovitch fish rice with pickled vegetables. Was good & food portions were awesome, price is very reasonable. Definitely going back.

In mississauga getting my nails done. Left home in a rush was very hungry asked my spouse to get some food he bought two meals curried goat rice and an oxtail with rice Cole slaw .only thing palatable was the coleslaw. Both meals had no flavor. I'm sure it couldn't be a Jamaican in that kitchen won't get my money again. Will continue to support the grocery store but not the restaurant. I told my hubby he should should have returned the food wasted extra hard earned money. Do better change the cook get a chef.

I DO NOT WANT TO BUY FOODS FROM HERE AGAIN! TERRIBLE! Start from the rice to the chicken, nothing is delicious or worth the price. Look at the pic, and you can see the texture of the rice is really bad, and the taste just ‘yuck’. I have been to this place before and it was amazing, but now, not sure what’s going on but everything is just OFF. I felt ashamed to have lunch here with friends and family, such a bad recommendation! #dissapointed

Very disappointing, how far have they have fallen. Ordered curry goat and rice lunch special for $7.99, good price, but terrible food, no taste, lack of salt and other seasoning. The doubles again lacking in seasoning and the bara was chewy, bara should melt in your mouth. Will not be going back.

Got the curry chicken roti and Jerk chicken roti, curry chicken was amazing but the Jerk chicken tastes different than we thought but the chicken was still very juicy. Hot sauce was SPICY haberneo and the rotis are big portions so it'll last us another meal. Overall would come here againFood: 5/5
