Wanda’s Caribbean Kitchen

Hello foodies, today I bring you another Caribbean food review. Because of my love for Caribbean cuisine, I have to been to almost all the Caribbean restaurants or takeout joints in the GTA, so this place was on my must-visit list! I finally made it around to stopping in for some lunch since I was in the area. I was really looking forward to trying their food since I read some pretty good reviews from some of the elite reviewers here. This review is based solely on the items I ordered and no other dishes from this place. I have a lot of experience with the typical Caribbean dishes as I frequent these restaurants on a weekly bases so I do have quite the reference to compare. The dishes I got were the Oxtail over white rice medium size and I had to order a side order of the macaroni salad as I read such good things about it. With your meal, they throw in a complimentary small cup of coleslaw. FOOD 3/5 Now I don’t know how some of the elite reviewershere gave this food such high ratings, either they have not been to other much better Caribbean restaurants in the GTA or it's their personal preference in taste, but my honest review is far off from theirs for several reasons. Oxtail was by far the best of my meal however being the best does not mean it was fabulous, I must say it was extremely tender very well cooked fall of the bone, but it lacked flavor and those fabulous Caribbean/Jamaican spices, the best way I can describe it, is the oxtail it was on the bland side compared the way oxtail is usually prepared the Jamaican way full of spiciness and some heat. So average at best as far as flavor. Macaroni Salad, it’s funny seems like the other reviewers really like this macaroni and it was probably the item I was really looking forward to eating, but it was a huge disappointment. The reason! It's super sweet! and by super sweet, I mean like desert-level sweet loaded with sugar. I like my macaroni salad with some sweetness but this was way overboard to the point after a few bites I could not eat the rest and threw it out. Way! Way! too much sugar, It's very refreshing and a great recipe if they removed 90% of the sugar it would be perfect. Not sure how anyone really enjoys this level of sugar in a cold macaroni salad it’s too much. Rice I also did not like the white rice it was sticky and on almost soggy and probably overcooked for it to be this way, not a nice loose rice Coleslaw was also not good at all. The cabbage was minced so finely that it had zero crunch, and because of this reason it seemed like the vinegar had almost cooked it to a mooch with no crunch and not fresh tasting at all, it could have been fresh but the prep destroyed the final outcome …I do not recommend this coleslaw at all. Service 5/5 I must say their service was top notch the people were very friendly and attentive and the place was spotlessly clean even with 3 people picking up their food there I was served in 5 minutes and out the door with my food, great service! Would I go back to this place, probably not there are several other options in the area that are superb in comparison to this restaurant, but hey you might have a different opinion again these are the only dishes I tried.

I had Akee and salt fish with fried dumplins, and a beef roti. The serving sizes were generous and reasonably priced.

Easily my favourite place for Caribbean food. They are very generous with their servings. The goat curry and jerk chicken are stellar

Recently visited Wanda's Kitchen as it has been on the list for a while and cant say enough about this place. We had the BBQ & Jerk Chicken on rice with a BBQ sauce and a Curry Ox Tail sauce on the rice which gave it a nice little kick.This food is super delicious and the Macaroni salad is to dye for , portions are nice and prices fair. Owners and staff super friendly and this is now one of my new go to places for Carribean food. Cheers :-

Excellent jerk chicken. I got it straight outta the oven fresh. Was juicy and flavourful. Prices very good

This place is great. As soon as you walk in there are great vibes and the ladies behind the counter are super friendly. I ordered the curry goat with rice and peas and it put every other curry goat dish I've had to shame. They're typically more savory and sweet in most places, but this one had a good kick that really elevated the dish. Whenever I go for Caribbean I always ask for side oxtail gravy and dumplings. The gravvy was delicious and the dumplings melt in your mouth. I'm not a coleslaw fan so I got the macaroni salad instead. Most places I don't care if their salads are good or not, but the macaroni salad here was very fresh and great on its own. I have no complaints at all. Will be back for the oxtail next.

This is one of the best Caribbean food restaurants I've been to in the GTA. I go here anytime I'm in the area and get the chance. All of the food is so flavourful, I can't say there are any dishes that could taste better. The portions are good. I love the fact that ypu can choose macaroni or coleslaw as a side because the macaroni salad is AMAZING . The following photos I took when I got home so they do the food no justice but they are a small jerk meal and a side of snapper.

Fantastic place to eat, I’m mad I didn’t try this out sooner! I enjoyed everything I ordered. With the recommendation of one of the lovely ladies that works here, I got the jerk chicken / rice with macaroni salad, fried dumpling , and a roti shell. She told me I was going to love it and she was absolutely right! Let me just say this was the best Mac salad I have ever had! It had incredible spices and flavour that I have never tasted together before. It was so good I wish it was bigger! The fried dumpling had a wonderful flavour just like everything else. It’s going to be really hard not to eat here everyday! I still have all of the menu to try so I will definitely be back

The food and service here is incredible! It was my first time coming in today, and so I had a lot of questions. Even though it was busy, the friendly lady behind the counter took her time to explain all the dishes for me. I ended up getting the oxtail, curry chicken, and jerk chicken. All 3 were packed full of flavour, and cooked to perfection. 10/10. 100% recommend!

Had the jerk chicken roti and it was fantastic! If you want it spicy remember to tell them at time of order otherwise the heat/spice is put on the side. Nice job Wanda! Ate my roti down at the park by the lake. The people there were like seagulls when they smelled the food. I had to brush them away.
