Chapters

This Chapters store is always neat and tidy, with impressive displays and current title promos. The Starbucks, as with most Chapters, is blended perfectly with the layout - always makes for a tasty stroll. The location is excellent, with the mall, and all its stores, within walking distance.

I've lived close to Nanaimo my entire life so this is "the" book store to go, and honestly, it's just okay. I don't love the selection of books, I think it's very soft compared to what it could be, especially compared to the chapters in Victoria. Actual scholarly books are in short supply, and though you can get works by smart people, they don't often have a huge supply. For instance, you can (sometimes) buy Noam Chomsky's Manufacturing Consent, but you could never buy his "aspects of the theory of syntax", his most important book on linguistics. Author's I haven't been able to find at all Norman Finklestein. Hans Morganthau. John J Mearsheimer. F A Hayak. Edward Seid (this one is actually really surprising to me). Tomas Aquinas. Literally anything scholarly about the Isreal/Palestine conflict, all they have is a weak "Jewish Experience" section. But they have Jordan Peterson? Weird, frankly. Also, way too much stuff that isn't books. Those candles and hand bags are just cringey. Would would actually buy a "slay all day" candle except the wine-y-est of wine moms and 13 year old girls?

Good service, everyone there genuinely seems to enjoy their jobs and it makes it a nicer place to shop. I wish that prices could be lower but nowadays with online shopping I know it can be difficult to compete.

Went in to buy the new book "Dangerous" by Milo Yiannopoulos. The don't carry it, even though it spent a great length of time atop the New York Times best seller list. Makes you wonder why. Oh ya they're run by leftist, globalist, Godless people.

This was my childhood to go place. Staff are always friendly and helpful, I never felt i was paying more than i should, and best of all, you can just sit down at any table and read a book in peace without being told to leave (or buy). This is a place that I will always remember fondly.
