Really impressed with our experience at Chantecler! Everything we ordered was delicious, standouts were the brioche and the cabbage with mussels, but I would happily order everything we had again. The fries weren’t my personal favourite, I prefer them a little crispier and they were a bit more on the soft side, but we still finished them. Really nice cozy warm vibes, the specific table we sat at was roomy and they spaced out the dishes well. Service was great, switched out our plates between courses and wiped down the table. They gave us some complimentary lemon drops for my friend’s birthday with a candle which was thoughtful and adorable!! A very memorable dining experience in Toronto and I will absolutely be coming back. Thank you!!
My friend and I dined here on a Friday evening. Overall, we had a really great time and the food was delicious. We ordered the brioche, fries, Ontario corn “panisse”, duck, chicken, zucchini and they ended up serving us the side of mushrooms due to a miscommunication. I think they said they recommend 5-6 dishes. The tables are a tad bit small, difficult to hold all the plates that came to the table. The drinks were good, I tried the golden-doodle and Bombastic side eye. The golden-doodle definitely tasted better. Service was good, but they removed our side plates and didn't replace them until we asked. We were sharing everything, so we did need the side plates. The interior was nice, but I thought the bench was extremely uncomfortable to sit on.
Ouf! Hot damn this place was delicious. The duck was *french kiss* magnificent and that brioche was melt-in-your-mouth lick-your-fingers good. The veggies were perfectly prepared too. Highly recommend. So why did I give this cozy spot with great service and top notch food four stars? Two words: Burt fries. Yikes! When they came, they were BLACK. No exaggeration. Also, I’m a huge fan of a good, classic old fashioned. In speaking to the bartender, I was convinced into their signature version. Awful. Couldn’t finish it. Three sips and kindly asked for a classic version. But that comes down to personal preference and not anything poorly done on their part. All in all, I thank the restaurant gods for this wonderful addition to our earthly existence.
Excellent, tasty food. Friendly, helpful server re solo dining challenges. But the tables are too tiny and tight squeeze between. Too many tables stuffed into every available space makes it super awkward for customers. Bathroom is on main floor accessible. Fun playlist on a Friday night. I will definitely return with family and friends!
Can’t wait to come back for a proper meal. Popped in for some snacks before heading to a show so we made it a quick visit. Bombastic side eye was yummy, great serving of fries, tartare was ! Service was great, love sitting at the bar :Food: 5/5
The one place I come back to and can always count on. It is an underrated gem. I've had their menu at their le pheonix location and was by far the best French I've had. I've had conversations with staff at many French resteraunts and this place is always mentioned for authenticity and taste. I am so happy chanteclar is back. This is our third visit and one of our favourties. Everyone is so friendly and outgoing. We felt very welcomed, comfortable and like a guest in someone's home. The duck cooked to tenderness surprised our taste buds and the duck liver mouse melted our hearts. It seems to be corn season, because corn ice cream dessert and cream corn potato hit the sweet spots. We are so excited to come back, an amazing place for casual, special occasion and on date night. Thank you to everyone. Thank you Dave and chef Deigo.
Friendly wait staff, yummy food but the kitchen was very slow with our dishes. The noise level was high due to the restaurant being at capacity and tight spaces between tables. We enjoyed the seafood platter, duck pate and duck confit.Food: 4/5
I've been a huge fan of Chantecler for years and years. I'm really glad that they're still going strong. Food is good as ever, service friendly and accommodating as always. Additionally, they are great for large groups. I had thought of taking my family there for a Sunday dinner, and they contacted me the day after booking online, and they were very professional and prompt in correspondence, ensuring that we had the best possible experience by the time we got there. The food came out like clockwork, every single dish impeccable. Needless to say, my entire family, most of whom were first-timers at the restaurant, came away very impressed.
Open concept, airy and no mosquito during our visit in mid Aug. It’s lively a bit noisy, with mostly young adults crowds. Seating is a bit tight as with most downtown eateries. They accommodated us as a big group and put tables together. It’s shoulder to shoulder but we do understand that’s the case before we visit. Attentive service and attention to details eg. When we mention we are sharing the onion soup, they bring us 2 spoons per soup. Favourite dish: duck, beef tartare and braised short ribs. Dish we enjoy the least: whole sea bass. It’s a bit fishy. Was told corkage is $35/ bottle but was charged $40/ bottle. They did one complimentary dessert for the birthday person and free one of the dishes that they missed. So I didn’t bring up the corkage question with the sever. Verdict- will definitely come again with a smaller group of people. It’s a place for some wine and small plates. I have a small appetite so I find it ok, but some people who enjoy lots of carbs/ starchy food may leave hungry.
Elegant yet still passably casual spot for French dining with bar and table seating. Food-wise, every single dish we ordered was delicious, truly. My personal favorites were the Half Duck simply amazing and so well executed and the Seared Cabbage & Mussels. That said, I would recommend trying the Duck Liver Mousse as well if you're up for something different — it's got quite the unique combination of sweet vs savoury. Service-wise, the staff was extremely friendly from start to finish. In terms of seating, would recommend ideally for groups of 2-4 people to maximize reservation booking availabilities. Overall, a solid experience and definitely a strong recommend.
