Initially I was a bit skeptical, as the appetizers were a bit bland and we had a long close to an hour wait between our starters and mains. However, they totally made up for it with the conversation and samples of other dishes. The service despite the wait was excellent and wine recommendations were great. Mains were full of flavour and definitely worth the wait. Great intimate experience at this small French bistro. The daily changing menu keeps things interesting, but could run the risk of some hit or miss dishes.
I wish I could give Dreyfus 6 stars!! The best French bistro I’ve been to in years! The menu is rotating so you’re always in for a surprise! We’ve gone 5+ times and it’s always a treat. The food is consistently good and the wine/drink menu is on point. Ambiance is lovely and great for couples or a small group. Can’t wait to go back to try their new menus in the coming year!
Recognized as one of “Canada's Best 100” top 15 restaurants in 2020, Dreyfus serves a relaxed style of modern French cooking in a converted townhouse. --- $ The celery root was sharp yet earthy. The prosciutto was a nice touch as it mellowed the sweetness of the celery. One of my favourite dishes of the night! $ , The potatoes were thick and extremely fluffy. The smoked oyster sauce was intriguing and enjoyable-- a little smokey and a little nutty, the smoked oyster really brought the potatoes to a whole other level. $ - The raw endives were sharp and a little bitter, while the cooked endives was nutty and much more mellowed. The main characteristics of the salad were sour, creamy and crunchy. $ , The salmon had a great balance of warm, toasty notes from the brown butter and the fresh acidity from the citrus. $ éé I must say that this was my least favourite on the menu-- everything else was so good that it overshadowed this dish. I thought the tartare needed a bit more seasoning, and either more crunch components or a smaller amount of cauliflower.
Dreyfus is definitely worth the money. I absolutely loved the ambience. A small, yet beautiful space. Our waitress was so sweet and could speak to everything on the menu in detail. And the food! So delicious and rich in flavour. I can’t pick a favourite dish!
Incredible dinner. Hats off to Peter for looking after us. We sat at the bar corner, which made it feel like we had a corner all to ourselves. I didn’t make the booking thanks better half! but I’m told it’s hard to get into, so if you love French food it’s worth the effort. The Zucchini flowers and Shrimp on Toast were home runs. The Duck main and the Natural Wine ie no hangover! are honourable mentions too. Look forward to coming back again soon.
Service was 5/5. The food in the beginning came out delicious. Loved the tartar and the beet salad. The scallops were really flavorful. Every item on the menu when we tried it was lactose free except for the dessert. The pasta dish tasted a little on the bland side and the duck was okay. The cod fish tasted the best for the main. Our waitress was awesome! The place is pretty small, fits about 20 ppl total for dine in and 8 at the bar for drinks. You can park on the side streets.
The food is great. However, I think the best here is dessert. The restaurant was louder than I had expected but it wasn’t intrusive. It has a very cozy vibe since it’s so small. One downside tho is that they do not have any coffee or tea. Was disappointed since the dessert was so good I really would’ve appreciated some coffee with it. Otherwise, service was excellent, and the restaurant was excellent.
Great atmosphere, friendly service bit long with menu explanation, beautifully plated and great food, reasonably priced, and solid alcohol selection more dessert wines. The asparagus and cheese was a wonderful dish. We also had the salmon, and the burrata with peppers. Finished a cheese plate with clowns loved these. Highly recommended.
My experience at Dreyfus was nothing short of phenomenal. Before the pandemic, my friend and I used to go to the "nicer" restaurants of Toronto every few months as a treat to ourselves. This was the first occasion post-pandemic that we were able to get together for dinner. From the moment we sat down to the moment we left, we were constantly in awe of the amazing food, service and ambiance. Our server was Kate and she was a rockstar and a half. My friend and I wanted to try as many different items on the menu as we could and we left it in Kate's hands. She did not disappoint. She was knowledgable, professional and quite honestly one of the best server's I've had anywhere - BAR NONE. As Dreyfus has a constantly rotating menu my food critique doesn't really help but everything was superb and I've shared some photos so you can get the sense. The food was amazingly thought out and the dishes really complimented one another. Overall a tremendous experience and a definite bucket list restaurant you must try at least once in your life.
A most excellent dinner at Dreyfus to celebrate my husband's birthday! We also appreciate the suggestions by our server. Everything was delicious - we wished we could lick the plates!Food: 5/5
