Story

For more than a quarter of a century the Canadian Honker Restaurant has taken great pride in our family serving yours. Since 1984, our family has been preparing the freshest, made from scratch recipes to create some of your most memorable meals. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, favorites include the Honker breakfast feast, world famous coconut bunnie cake, home made soups, as well as pan seared walleye, hand cut steaks, prime rib and fresh jumbo shrimp. The Canadian Honker offers special children’s and senior menus as well as a several gluten free and vegetarian options.

The Hot Turkey Sandwich is to die for. A huge thick and tender helping of turkey. On either Vienna, wheat, or marble rye bread. Mashed potatoes and gravy. I am not big on gravy but this gravy is not to salty and it is delicious . Not to forget a serving of cranberries. I have had the vienna and marbled rye sandwiches. Both are great. Be ready to bring leftovers home. They are known for their coconut cake - a light white cake with coconut frosting. The frosting is not to sweet and it mysteriously disappeared. The next day I had the apple crisp - thick sliced apples, cooked in a great tasting base. Soft oatmeal crumble on top. Served with vanilla or cinnamon ice cream. Garnished with whipping cream. They have a great Minnesota made lager and full bar. This is across the street from St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. I am visiting this city and came across this restaurant.

I had pancakes with strawberries and sausage links. To drink I had an iced latte. This place is nice inside and the service was pretty quick. The food items weren't the best I have ever had or anything but it was all tasty. The outdoor seating and the quality coffee and baked goods bumps this place up to a solid 4 stars. Definitely a safe bet especially if you are just getting back from the hospital which is nearby.

Over the past couple of weeks. I've had over 12 different servers. Each and everyone of them did a top notch job. The whole crew had very nice and pleasant. I only had 1 bad Long Island but it was graciously replaced. I've tried about a third of the menu. Every dish was freshly made, not one was a bad dish. When my wife gets out of the Mayo Hospital. I'm going to miss this place.

We stopped here after seeing it on a "best of" list. Everyone in our party was pleased! I had the most tender sirloin I've ever had. Definitely get the coconut cake - it's enough to share and is just the right amount of sweet. They were also kind enough to give us poutine, which is not in the menu. Will eat here if we're in Rochester again!

Very friendly and helpful staff. Food was excellent and served promptly and hot. We each had the encrusted walleye which we enjoyed. Apple crisp dessert was enough for two. Will definitely visit again on our next Mayo Clinic appointment.
