Butter tart 10/10. The best balance of salt and sweetness. Not overly sweet. My friend had the chocolate cookie and he liked it a lot. Staff and owner of the store are extremely nice. I would come back again for other pastries. Make sure to come early in the day. Not many pastries left when I visited around 3pm.
Tasty treats. The cashier communicated well that I would have to wait for her to make a coffee for a previous customer and made it up to me later by giving me a free cookie! Now that's customer service! Looks like it's takeout only with no seating. Food runs out very quickly, though, and very few options are still available at 2:00 p.m. on a weekday.
The butter tarts are really awesome and ooey gooey - hard to find ones that make a lasting impression and leave you yearning for more or reminisce the ones offered in cottage country. The onion foccacia was delicious and flavourful. Can't wait until my next visit!
Cookies are so good with a salty bite. Butter tarts are flaky and caramelized along the edges. So very very good! Sour dough bread is good too, but it was over baked so very hard to cut at home. Maybe just this batch? Hard to find as they don’t have a store sign…just look for the number. Cookies and tarts are a definite repeat purchase!
Lovely selection of pastries ranging from sweet to savoury, and many with asian influenced ingredients! The cha siu bao was ok, but the dough itself was a bit dense and the filling was dry - just chunks of meat. Would be better if the filling was a bit jammier along with the meat. The peach donut was good, but I found the amount of icing on top to be a bit overwhelmingly sweet. The butter tarts were perfection though. Also recommend the foccacia. I’ve heard a lot of good things from friends about the sourdough, so I will be back to try them!
Banoi 4/5 Cool little walk in and take out bakery based on Bloor between Christie and Ossington stations. I've had a couple of their loaves, their butter tarts, a hot dog bun and their chocolate chip cookie. Their loaves are great imo, crunchy outside with a fluffy inside. I think their prices for their loaves aren't very student friendly. But they sometimes have day old loaves that were priced at 3 dollars, and they are definitely better than every and any other bread you could buy in a supermarket. The price I see for their same day loaves are similar to the price you'll see at any other bakery in the city putting up a similar product. The hot dog bun was great, I am a big fan of woof dawg hotdog and I believe they use their hotdog in the bun. The bread component of the hot dog bun is better than any you'll find in Chinatown. And while it was good, I kinda feel like it was too good for what I want from a hot dog bun. Like I want my hot dog bun a little trashy, but that's probably just me. The chocolate chip cookie I found to be great, big and small pieces of chocolate throughout the cookie. But I think there was a little too much flaky salt on the top of mine. The butter tarts were the best I've ever had, super gooey in the middle and the salt on top of these are necessary I think. The dude who runs the place is cool every time I came through and it's mostly just a go in, get what I want and get out situation when I go.
The galettes here are fantastic. I had the corn cheddar - not much in the way of cheddar flavour, but the corn was bright and sweet, and the pastry is par excellence. I’ll be back to try more!
The focaccia is simply AMAZING! Sooooo good! The cookies are also a must try! Service is friendly. They also offer coffee, but no seating area.
Have ordered multiple times for the country loaf. Would recommend! Bread is one of the best in the city- freshly baked, crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. The odd time the bottom is a little burnt but otherwise fairly consistent. Also got the char siu buns and mushroom galette. Mushroom galette is very rich and buttery, pastry-like. Still tasty and gladly shared. Char siu buns are well packed, could use a bit more salt and sauce. Otherwise both are a nice snack
love at every bite.. the best buttertart in town. I tried it before from a friend and i just fell in love with it. Today i was in the area and ask my friend to bring me to this store to buy butter tart. Cravings satisfied.
