Avis Car Rental

Avoid this Montreal Airport Avis agency at all costs. Terrible customer service. The front desk lady not only did not give us a free upgrade with Avis Preferred but also gave us a broke down car with all service lights on (tire pressure too low, ABS brake system malfunctioning and 4-wheel-drive not functioning at all), refused to help when alerted of the issues and pretended it was due to the cold. We had many issues on the road with the car skidding and brakes malfunctioning (we nearly had several accidents) and had to switch out the car en route via roadside assistance. Absolute shame that Avis would not be able to find someone more professional and competent to run their Avis Preferred location.

This place is awful. I rented a car from here and they were overcharging me so I called them and they gave me a price reduction which was still doubled the normal price. I complained and they were yelling, was being very rude and was talking to me as if I should be so thankful because they did the best they can do. If you have to use this branch don’t even expect any customer service. Once you get involved in a problem with them they make it even bigger and blame everything on you. Even one star out of five is wasteful, I would’ve gave them none if I could. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THEM.

Be careful my car was equipped with lower quality winter tires (sailun - ice blazer). They are very slippery on black ice ~even though I was driving super slow coming to a stop and starting is a struggle. Everyone could go faster and trying to pass which can be dangerous.

Beware if you live in the United States and rent from Avis at this location. In the fine print is a section that states you agree to pay in US dollars plus a 3% fee. If you pay in Canadian dollars you avoid the 3% fee. The agent will not ask you which currency you wish to pay in, they will just automatically assume you want to pay in US currency. Which results in a 3% increase in your bill.

My latest two rentals have been as a Avis Preferred Member. Everything has become so much easier. Add a professional kind and helpful staff. And there you have my latest experience.
