Upon walking into this place, I got a warm and relaxed feeling from the the layout of the cafe. The large garage doors opening up to the outside makes it feel like a true gathering place for the community. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and felt that the portion size did not match the price. The bun also reminded me of the same type of bun I would get on a McDonald’s sandwich. I also got some drip coffee to go. If you’re looking for a fresh brew I would recommend checking out an actual coffee shop. There are plenty around burlington. Overall, this place does deliver on a fresh, local bakery experience.
If you're in the city of Burlington and you're looking for the best bread around, look no further than August First. This bustling eatery is known for its incredible baked goods, particularly its bread, which is some of the best you'll find anywhere. Despite the crowds that often gather outside, it's worth braving the line to experience the quality of the bread for yourself. The service can take a bit, but trust us when we say that the bread is worth the wait. If you're a bread lover, you simply can't miss this place. Inside, the atmosphere is lovely and provides a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's a cozy and inviting space that feels like a different world entirely. Now, let's talk about the food. We tried the Avocado Toast, the Focaccia which we used at home for a pesto pasta dinner, and a chocolate cookie, and everything was fantastic. The bread was the perfect amount of airy, and the crust was impressively crispy. The prices were about 10-15 bucks per item, which might seem a bit steep, but when you consider the quality of the bread, it's easily worth it. Overall, I can't recommend August First enough. If you're a bread lover, this is a must-visit spot in the city of Burlington. Just be prepared to wait in line and maybe have a bit of patience with the service. But once you take a bite of that amazing bread, you'll know it was all worth it. Vegetarian options: Vegan options too! Including entrées and cookies!
Excellent little local bakery and breakfast shop! We ordered a biscuit and the Eat the East breakfast sandwich with tofu instead of egg and impossible sausage. Both things were delicious! The biscuit came with maple butter and a local fruit jam which paired wonderfully. The sandwich was a very heavy breakfast and I was happy to share. The flavors were fresh and really complemented the sausage and tofu. Highly recommend trying this restaurant if you're in the area! Locals lined up 10 deep before they even opened the door, that's how you know this place rocks!
August First is the perfect breakfast spot in Burlington if you’re looking for a chill vibe and excellent food and service. The avocado toast is out of this world. So much avocado, topped with pickled onions and everything bagel seasoning. I appreciate the signage to not use laptops was the best remainder to be present in the moment. Don’t forget to buy some pastries on your way out!
We stopped here for brunch. There was a line that moved quickly, but they were out of the polenta that I wanted. I ended up getting a Day Maker ? And hubby got pulled pork and egg sandwich. Mine was just okay and he liked his except the pork was too fatty. The place was really busy, but not sure we would come back. The mocha coffee we had was the best coffee we've had on this trip.
The maple biscuits are to DIE for and I recommend to all on a weekly basis! Nice lighting and decent seating all around. Line is kind of in the middle of the place and pick-up counter is often a squeeze of a fit. Still, good breakfast sandwiches, lattes, and salads!
Our favorite bakery in Vermont. Everything is so fresh here. Their breakfast sandwiches and griddled maple biscuits are out of this world!
Cute and cozy cafe in Burlington! It was a rainy day so definitely felt nice to have a warm cup of coffee. The chocolate croissant was yummy. The atmosphere is very laid back. Enjoyed it.Food: 5/5
August first is a staple bakery in Burlington. The building is cozy, and improved by the fact that they dont allow laptops. They make great bread, delicious pastries, and apparently also an excellent italian sandwich. I got the Don, on their house focaccia bread… SO GOOD! A hefty sandwich, but at 17$ id expect nothing less.
Love the laptoplessness! Only critique is portion size - that avo toast was WAY too big, the bread was unpalatably thick. The flavours were delicious, service was fast and the staff very kind. Also would be great to have physical plates for food ordered on location, esp bc it was so messy to eat.Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: YesTakeout: Yes
