I'm truly impressed by the Yuzu broth; it offers a distinct flavor compared to the pork broth and delivers a wonderfully refreshing experience. My family has a deep appreciation for ramen, and Afuri has now become our ultimate favorite. The fact that they craft their noodles and broth fresh in-store every day sets them apart from most other places that rely on powdered broth. I can't recommend their mocktail enough; the addition of grapefruit gives it a uniquely refreshing and delightful flavor.
Fantastic Ramen shop offering up the classics along with some unique items and a seasonal menu. For ramen, their specialty seems to be the yuzu shoyu which I'll try next time, but as a standard I always get tonkotsu when trying a new spot and it was excellent here. Rich and creamy broth with and the noodles were cooked to a perfect Al dente. We tried a couple other small plate with our least favourite, surprisingly, being the winged buta dumplings. Maybe just an off day but the signature "wing" was not crispy at all and dumpling were a little bland - not bad by any means but definitely missed the mark. Aside from that, the corn kakiage and tori salad from the seasonal menu were incredible and highly recommend if they are available. Service is friendly and meals came out super fast - I'd suggest asking to get you apps before ramen if you prefer it that was as our ramen came out well before the small plates, not that we minded. Overall a great addition to the Toronto ramen scene and while it may not be the best in flavour or value, a changing menu means I'll be continuing to come back!
First impressions: Afuri has a welcoming, clean and open atmosphere. Also has an open/ glass kitchen which I know to be typical of Asian restaurants with high hygiene standards. The servers were friendly, quick and efficient with their service. Food arrived relatively quickly also. Prices are reasonable too. I did find the menu to have too few options; this may be because they just opened a few weeks ago. I hope they add more items to the menu in the future. The food was good, but not overwhelmingly impressive. Regardless, I will return and try other dishes on the menu in the near future. Vegetarian options: Few to choose from
Overall, Afuri was an interesting and refreshing experience. Firstly, the atmosphere was incredibly vibrant. Went here around dinner and saw the place packed, we were incredibly lucky to get a seat. You can barely hear yourself speak when the surroundings are so lively, so definitely worth keeping note. The waitstaff was incredibly attentive and routinely checking in on us to ensure that we were enjoying our meal. Likewise, they were incredibly welcoming. Foodwise, the ramen definitely steals the show. Afuri's signature Yuzu Shouyu Ramen was an incredibly refreshing take on ramen. Notably it was light, with hints of citrus that were not strong, making this a definite must try. Similarly, the Ninniku Shoyu did not have too much of an overwhelming taste and was pleasantly flavourful. The portion-sizes are modestly acceptable, although its worth nothing that one might not be satisfied with one bowl of ramen. There is a decent variety of appetizers, though I argue that some are a bit overpriced such as the ikageso karaage, which was much smaller than expected. Flavourwise, it was decently tasty, though nothing too notable. Overall, Afuri is an interesting place to try yuzu ramen if you're looking for ramen that doesn't feel nearly as heavy. Though, due to the portion size and overall cost, it can be in the pricey side. My only complaint is that the cost of substituting regular noodles for tofu noodles is very overpriced, being priced at more than $4 additional. At the bare minimum, definitely worth trying at least once for the experience.
Came on a Wednesday night at 9pm and ordered the entire menu. Did not have to wait for a table of 3. I asked the server to pick a ramen for me and they chose the Yuzu Satan for me. I thought the broth was too tangy for my liking and preferred my friends tonkotsu shio ramen. We also ordered the softshell crab bun which was delicious! The fried squid was also very good. We lastly ordered the winged buta gyoza which was underwhelming. Would recommend and come back, but I prefer Ramen Isshin.
Tried Afuri ramen for the first time. The service is really great. They explained the menu thoroughly and are ready to help whenever you have questions on the menu. Their signature dish is Yuzu Shio Ramen. The broth is rich and has a nice yuzu citrus flavour, which makes it unique compared to other ramen in town. Their Wing Buta Gyoza is also really good. Crispy on the outside and juicy in the inside. The filling has the right amount of saltiness and umami. Would recommend to try it if you are in the area.
New chicken broth ramen place! Nice, clean and modern interior with open kitchen. You can see that they make their own noodles which was pretty good. Their dumpling appetizer was alright. It could be crispier. It was still juicy though. We also tried a softshell crab bun. This one was really good. I’d come back for that. I got the most basic yuzu shio ramen. Interesting broth. It’s chicken based so not as thick as tonkotsu and has a yuzu kick. I think the yuzu would be love or hate. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t mind blowing either. I think if you’re craving some light ramen this could satisfy you.
The Yuzu ramen here is indeed impressive. The flavours are all there, subtle and welcoming. The staffs attentive and decor is very smart. But I have to deduct one star for the high price, and the perplexing menu and drink options. Surely it is more fitting to advertise the place as more of a Japanese diner and bar rather than a ramen and dumpling place?
While waiting for my kids, I came by this place for a quick dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The food was decent, the edamame was perfectly seasoned. The soup was good but for the price, I wish I could have got another slice of the chashu pork. However, the atmosphere was great, relaxing, not rushing and the service wa excellent. Highly recommend! And I'll definitely come back!
Sorry we really were excited to try this place but it was just a big let down overall. All of the appetizers were really not tasty at all. Specially the gyoza had no flavor at all and the sauce was very overpowering. The corn fritters were very salty and I didn't know what kind of flavors it was supposed to have. The salad was meh and salty as well. The yuzu based ramen broth was not tasty at all. I'm sorry but it was a weird combination and I don't feel that the flavor of yuzu matches with ramen. The service and ambience was quiet nice however.
