It's been a while since I've been to the food court at First Markham Place. This time I was looking for something cheap and tasty to keep me going until I got home. Despite the name, there is no relation to Chef Martin Yan as far as I know. They had a special on soup and noodles for only $5.99. That seemed to fit what I was looking for but it ended up being a lot of food! I don't think they could have fit another noodle in that box! It was tasty, as was the hot and sour soup. Not bad, especially for the price!
Yes, Yan can cook! First Markham Place is the common go-to place for relatively affordable Chinese food court options that are served quickly. Yan Can Cook is a wok stall that’s been around for a long time. Lines are not as long as the BBQ shops. Prices have risen up recently, but the Spicy Eggplant with Minced Meat comes with rice & tea for under $10. Its container was packed to the brim with hot braised eggplant. It was on the saltier side yet still enjoyable when mixed in with rice.
First time and last time ordering from this place. Ordered spicy eggplant with minced pork. The eggplant was not cooked through and the entire dish was really salty. The free sweet an sour soup that came with the order had tofu with green/black mold spots on them. Would not recommend this place at all.
I have been going here for over 8 years. Quality Food, Big servings, Good price and drink or soup included. I bring my own containers to save on packaging pollution and they fill the containers. The picture is Fish with Vegetables on Ho Fun Noodle, and Szchuan Beef on Ho Fun Noodles + two Iced Tea drinks. Total price $21.45. Portions are good for two meals each. Great taste.
Located at the food court inside First Markham Place. They offer a great selection. The food quality is ok and the portion is big. The price is consider reasonable for a meal with drink or soup included. The food is fresh as they make it by order.
We ordered take out, it was quite busy that evening but the line was moving fast. We were given a number, and the order camequite fast. We ordered Cantonese Chow Mien and Salt and Pepper Pork Chop on Rice. Bith were delicious, i especially like the Salt and Pepper Pork Chop, it wasn't over salty nor spicy, just right. Overall, as a fast food place it's quite good woth lots of varieties. Will try other items next time.
Came to try their fish siu mai after many years. Still cheap and good value for 3.50 since they're huge but they're a bit more doughy than I remember, like they put in a bit too much starch. Although this HK street food is hard to find, you're better off going to Garden Cafe Kennedy/Hwy 7 for this snack.
Good Cantonese eats. Feel like this is one of the only restaurants in this mall that still has decent value other than the BBQ restaurants. Quality is acceptable for the price. They are pretty fast as well. Cash only
Writing a review for my friend who experienced this today. A simple Wanton Lo Mien. This picture was taken after the meal was finished. The soup had a mild stink to it, and the colour is not typical; not the light yellow one would expect. When notifying the counter staff, was solely dismissed as this is how the soup is. Otherwise, the 5 herb drink was very good. turns out Yan Can Cook Cannot Cook all things well.
Best food court vendor, period. Great people, quick service, awesome food and even better prices. What more could one ask for. I paid less than $8 for the meal in the picture. Hearty and tasty. I was in and out within 10 minutes. The fried squid rice and egg plants rice are must try.
